Big Red Boat: How is Salt Cay Beach trip???

We are going on the Big Red Boat (Oceanic) on a 3 night Bahamas cruise. The cruise offers a trip to Salt Cay and also a snorkeling plus Salt Cay trip. My family loves to snorkel and that is our primary objective. So question: Can you snorkel right off the shore of Salt Cay or should we take the boat's snorkeling plus Salt Cay trip? What is Salt Cay like? Thanks so much for any help!!

Hi! We went on the Big Red Boat last spring and took a separate snorkeling trip with Bahama Divers and had a blast. We made it back to the ship in time to set sail (thank goodness!) I don't know how the snorkeling at Salt Cay is though because we didn't go there. Have fun!

If this is Salt Cay five miles off of Grand Turk, we have spent a week there a few years back and we can tell you all about it.

Salt Cay is really Gilligan's Island!
We went to the Bahamas in 96 and took
a day trip over there. The island (salt
cay) is also called Blue lagoon island and one other name, depending on which cruise line you're on! Anyway, it is
actually where gilligan's island was filmed and it's beautiful! There is a lagoon where the kids can rent all kinds of watervehicles ( paddleboat, etc.) or you can snorkel right off shore. The swim with dolphins program is also there.

We just got back from a Big Red Boat trip and LOVED Salt Cay. We actually snorkeled around the lagoon there and found some good underwater sights - mostly near the bridge. I would like to know if anyone else has snorkeled offshore there because we may go back and try it again next year!

we went on the big red boat and took the trip to "gilligan's island" it was the highlight of our cruise. the lagoon is beautiful and the island small but we found a deserted beach to explore away from everyone else, it was really cool.

We went on the big red boat in 1998 when my daughter was five. It was really hard to pry her out of the kid's program! Salt Cay was nice. We took the tender over there, dropped her off with the kids, and went snorkeling with the stingrays. Not too bad; not gorgeous either. I understand you can go out farther on a boat;if your kids are older I would reccommend that. The lagoon is beautiful and very peaceful, and the buffet lunch was really good. Definitely worth going. The only problem you will have is that you will wish the cruise lasted longer! lisa
