Best Location For Stateroom
Where is the best area on the ship to book a stateroom? Are some areas better to reduce the chance of seasickness? Where are the engines? Are they really loud? As you can tell, I've never cruised before and I looking for any helpful hints! Thanks!!

Middle to front is better than back. Outside cabin is nice because you have a window but inside works great if you want to save money. Some people think the higher floor the better, but we've been on floors 3 and up and have not had any problem with sea sickness or loud engine noises. There are usually sea-sickness patches available, depending on what cruise line. Something we learned the hard way: look at the floor plan of the ship, each level. Make sure your stateroom is not directly above or below a lounge. You might hear loud noises all night! If you don't find that information on-line (again, depending on the cruise line) you can request a brochure or booklet from the cruise company, or get a free one from a travel agent. Also, it's usually cheaper to book through a "cruise only" agency - look around on the internet and compare prices. It can vary quite a bit. Sometimes a travel agent can match the price, but we've always gotten better deals on-line. Good luck - cruising is a great vacation!

The least motion in a ship is felt in its center section.
Picture in your mind a playground see-saw. If you are at either end you experience a lot of up and down motion, if you are in the center, you experience almost no up and down motion, only a little rocking.
Most people will recommend a cabin in the middle of the ship on a lower deck to minimize motion (and sea sickness). Hope this helps.
To avoid noise, look for a cabin that is away from noisy public areas, like show rooms, the casino, etc.
The ships engines (on most newer ships) are below the crews decks, which are below all passenger levels, so you are not likely to hear them. Enjoy your cruise!

Just another thought...you probably don't want the deck just below the promenade deck, especially if the ship has the jogging track on that deck. I've had people tell me that you can hear the joggers/runners overhead. IMO I wouldn't want the promenade deck either with an outside cabin, I like my privacy! But wherever you are you will have a great time! Have lots of fun.

I checked a lot of on-line sights and ended up with cruiseplanners.com. I got the best price from them, but I also didn't accept their first quote. I let them know I was looking at other sights and they told me they would beat any other legitimate agency, and they did. I've also heard that Cruisequick.com is a good sight, but I didn't check them out at the time. Good luck - good deals are out there, sometimes you just have to work to get them.

The first time I got the quote from cruiseplanners I called the toll free number of the cruise line and asked if they were familiar with cruiseplanners and asked if they ever had any problems with them. They said that Cruiseplanners did a lot of business with them and so far they have not had problems with them. Whatever on-line company you chose, you might want to contact the cruise line to check, just in case.
