Best Cruise Line to Southern Caribbean?
Would like to take a cruise w/ husband and 2 teenage sons (16 & 17) in February, 2007. We have decided upon Southern Caribbean (Barbados, Antigua, St. Thomas, etc.) What cruise line would you suggest for this trip? Thanks in advance.

janiekins - I am doing this cruise/itinerary February 10-17 on Serenade of the Seas. For this itinerary at this time of year, there are only 2 ships/cruiselines -- RCCL Serenade of the Seas or Princess - Crown Princess. We chose RCCL. CP is a new ship (maiden voyage in June) and bigger than Serenade. I found cruisecritic.com to be of great help in answering questions/reading reviews.

sleeepy I think Carnival runs a southern schedule year round on Destiny out of San Juan. We are doing it in November which includes Aruba but I have read that in 2007 Aruba will be dropped and St Lucia and Antigua added.

Curt, thanks. I had not heard that. We definitely wanted Barbados, St. Lucia, Antigua, St. Thomas and St. Martin. I wasn't keen on going on Carnival for various reasons and for that itinerary, it left RCCL and Princess. It also looked to me as if Carnival took on new passengers/dropped off passengers at most stops. Not sure what exactly bugged me about it; it just did.

I actually just retruned from the Carnival Destiny Southern Caribbean cruise. I had a great time and did actually like the itinerary of San Jaun departure with St Thomas, Barbados, and Aruba as ports. Like Curt, I have also read that come January or February of 2007 the itinerary will change. They will cut out Aruba and add St Lucia and Antigua, due to the rising costs of fuel (Aruba is too far away). As much as I loved Aruba, I would go again just to go to these 2 other islands.

My husband and I travelled on the Serenade of the Seas. The Southern Caribbean is our favorite and this RCCL ship was outstanding. The ship is gorgeous, food wonderful and excursions were terrific. Best cruise ever. The only negative is sailing out of Puerto Rico, which is so dirty and disgusting. But it's worth it because the cruise is awesome.

Sleepy-
We are going on Serenade this Christmas after having been on the Destiny and the Adventure the last 4 years. We are excited because we love Barbados, St Martin and Antigua. Curacao is another favorite. The first year we did not like it but went to a beach last year it has become one of my favorites. Amazing how with St Thomas I can take it or leave it. This year I think I will stay on the ship. To go to Magens Bay by taxi, chairs and floats cost about $300 for 12 people. IMHO I think there are prettier beaches than Magens Bay.

For me and my husband. I did a lot of of reserch on which cruise line We went on. Because I get sea sick I like the bigger cruise, and we choose Mariner of the sea(of the vager class ship sorry if misspelled) we went in june of 2004, so it was a new ship, and we loved it. We went on a western one though. Next time I would like to try southern, or eastern.

I am currently in the beginning stage of planning for my trip next summer to the Southern Caribbean. After much research, we have decided on Carnival Destiny. Because we are hoping to lure several friends and family, we went with Carnival which runs about $300K for the same itinerary.
My TA helped me decide as well as I was dead set on Royal Caribbean. Either way, I can't way.
Regarding the comment about PR being dirty, it is big city...with a big city appeal. Good and bad. I've been there once as a port, and another for a conference. There are part of PR that are really nice. You just have to get out of the city.
Either way, I can't wait!
