Bermuda, shore excursions or on our own

We will be cruising on the Pacific Princess this Sept. and I am wondering which shore excursions from the ship I should consider? I am also considering the Jesse James excursion which I would book on my own. They stop at three snorkeling stops including a ship wreck. Has anyone gone with this company? If so, I would love some feedback. The ship will be docking in St. George, Hamilton and the Royal Navy Dock Yard. Jesse James leaves from Hamilton. I would appreciate any suggestions for activities in these areas. We are planning on renting a moped. Can we access a lot of the Bermuda highlights via moped? Is there one stop that would be better to rent mopeds than another? Thank you for your help.

You can see almost everything in Bermuda via a moped. but be prepared for the "bermuda symphony"..Last year was the worst in nine years..there were two ambulances waiting for our ship in Boston..and that doesn't count the woman in the wheel chair, her daughter with a broken arm and several other people with bandaged arms and legs..and I'm not joking.

Peggy Sue- Definitely RENT your own MODPED--Bermuda is only 7 miles long-If you rent for the entire time you are there, and if the ship leaves and does to St.George or Royal Navy Dock, they are BOTH reachable by moped in about 1/2 hr total drive...

Be VERY careful on the MOPED-WEAR SLAX and Tennis shoes- as the walls along the coast of Bermuda are made of CORAL SHELL and are razor sharp if you hit them---

Just be careful to look RIGHT AND LEFT- as driving is like in England-"on the wrong side of the road".

Mopeds are the ONLY way to see Bermuda-THEY DO NOT RENT CARS THERE- and TAXIS are horrendously priced....You can see everything on your own.

You will love BERMUDA- Make sure you take a tour of the CAVES- the ice crystal hanging down are awesome to see!

Elbow Beach is the largest Beach that give cruise ship passengers access...and it is a huge beach--BUT there are tiny little private coves that you can access on your moped for a romantic day.....

St.George is a terrific place to have lunch in a pub overlooking the ocean-

You are going to have a great time!

Peggy Sue - If you do NOT ride a bicycle on a regular basis, I would think twice about mopeds. They are dangerous! Last time we were there a tourist was killed almost in front of us (we were in a taxi) and it was not a pleasant thing to see. You are on the left side of the rode, competing with trucks, cars, and other mopeds. The ferry is an excellent alternative to get the Hamilton from the dock in St George. Buses aren't bad either, but not fast.

Peggy Sue,I agree with Sue,the mopeds are dangerous when coupled with left side driving rules. The Bermuda transportation system operates very smoothly and you can purchase a transpass good for 1,2 or 3 days. The pass is valid for unlimited travel on all busses and ferries. When we were there we also rented bikes and took them on the ferries(free) to other parts of the island while we visited the caves and other attractions.
