Bermuda Port Charges and Tax

I just booked a Celebrity Cruise out of NJ to Bermuda, I'm very confused why the port charge and tax are $615.50 on a $1300.00 cruise?? Can anyone shed any light on this? Thank you!

one reason is that Bermuda limits the amount of cruise ships and passengers.. they don't want us overunning the island.

The $615 couldn't be just tax as I thought the tax should be about $145 per person. Go to the Celebrity web site and double check. Are you sure the $615 does not include a bunch of other stuff? (like transfers, grats etc?) If this is what your TA is telling you, time to dtch them and get a different one.

Thanks for the replies! Yes, the $615 is for two passengers for port charge and tax. Just seems high to me, but the reply that I got back from the travel agency was that port charges do vary from port to port. Gee, by the time you tack on gratuities, travel ins. etc....you're spending a small fortune! Thanks again!

If the port charges is $145 each, so it is $290 for both.
That leaves the $325. Ask your TA for a detailed breakdown on what they are. I smell something ...
