Baltic Cruise - ideas

Need ideas for 2002 the Baltic. Princess, Celebrity, and others do the June-July cruises.

What have you experienced?

Ports might be more important.
Service and ship is maybe less important.
Price is important, but maybe where to book could change that.

Some are 10 - 11 - 12 nights.

Thanks, Anew.

You're too early to get any good deals now. The best deals come out about 3-4 months before the cruise date. We are going on the NCL Dream Baltic Scandenavia cruise on Aug. 3, 2001. We booked in May and have an outside deluxe cabin on Promenade deck in the center of the ship. We are payinf $1169. per person for the 12 days including everything except air. We booked on www.travelocity.com and no other site came close to this price by $300. Wait a while- there are plenty of ships doing this itenerary onmany dates.

I know the waiting stinks, but it will pay off for you.

Good luck!

Steve

Just came back from a Baltic cruise on Celebrity's Galaxy. Can't say too many good things about the ship--spacious cabin, plenty of storage space, food was great, service was even better and the entertainment was top notch. It was a 14 day--a little too port intensive for my taste--only 2 days at sea, but the ports were great--started in Amsterdam then Oslo, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Gdansk, Estonia (a very pleasant surprise), Rostock, Germany, St. Petersburg (fascinating but a little grim) and ended in Stockholm. Cruising through the archipelego in Sweden has been the second most wonderful experience of my cruising career, other than arriving and leaving Venice. In my opinion Stockholm is the best kept secret in Europe. I would highly recommend the Galaxy. It was one of the best cruises I've every taken. The bonus was perfect weather--70-85 degrees and not one single rainy day in 14. The one nice thing about Celebrity is that you can book your excursions in advance. Some people waited until they boarded and were disappointed because they couldn't get the excursion they wanted (particularly in Russia). If you go on Celebrity, keep that in mind.

Went on the Galaxy this year and it was the best cruise/trip of our lives. Booked in January for June 14 departure, got great deal by watching Travelzoo.com. Total cost for cabin was $2933. Booked category 8 guarantee and was upgraded to category 2 with veranda. Ports are terrific - Amsterdam, Oslo, Stockholm, St. Petersburg, Gdansk, Warnemunde / Rostock and copenhagen. All destinations in themselves. feel free to e-mail me for more details.

We also just returned from a 12 day
Scandinavia/Russia cruise aboard RCCL Legend of the Seas. I have to echo Linda's comments about Stockholm and the archpelego. Whatever cruiseline you choose, make sure you are out on deck when leaving Stockholm! Fantastic!
We also had perfect weather. We went roundtrip from Harwich (London) which made the airfare more reasonable. We had been on the Legend previously and the food has dramatically improved.
This was my 15th cruise and I highly recommend this itinerary. Enjoyed everything.
