Baltic Capitols

Has anyone used the Hop On Hop Off Buses for their shore excursion in the Baltic Capitols? Is it inclusive enough?

I am anxious to find out too.
You may have better luck posting this qustion on the Europe board and tag appropriate countries.

We used them only once, in Oslo and as it was a Sunday and sort of quit it was fine then under those circumstances.

You can't do it in Russia, assuming you are stopping in St. Petersburg. You need a Russian visa which is a hassle to get so most people book a tour either thru the ship r a Russian tour company which suffices for your visa.

Our ports included besides the above, Stockholm, Helsinki, Tallinn and Gydina. We found these to be easily doable on our own. We did not need a HO/HO bus. In fact our ship had a shuttle to Tallinn which stopped right in town. We cabbed it in Helsinki to see the big copper domed church there, met a wonderful cabbie in Gydinia, cabbed it to the Vasa museum in Stockholm and took a water taxi from there to the old town (Gamla Stan) and cabbed it back.

I suppose it depends on how much you want to see so I suggest searching for HO/HO buses to see what their stops are and if this will suit you.

Jacketwatch,

What are your suggestions for the German port? I am not bout spending 6 hrs on a train to/from Berlin.

Actually our cruise did not have a stop in Germany. Some do, some don't. I don't think I'd want to spend all that time on the train either. I would like to see Berlin but as part of a land vacation.

I went of the same cruise as Jacketwatch but 2 months later ,in August of that year.

Do not waste your time going to Berlin.

Berlin is too nice to travel 6 hours plus , in one day and then be driven past the highlites of the City, and then return back to the ship.

I spent 3 days in Berlin and could have used an extra day.

What are your ports of call and how long are you in each port.?

We used the Stockholm Card and enjoyed it. It includes both free transportation and a lot of museum admissions.

Hi Neuman,

>What are your suggestions for the German port?

If you are stopping at Warnemunde, you can read reviews at http://www.cruisecritic.com/search/r...m?q=warnemunde

I think that you will find www.cruisecritic.com to be more helpful than this board.

Enjoy your visit.
