Bad trip on Grand Circle

I returned from a trip to Russia on Grand Central cruises. I was quite disappointed. The food was the worst I have had on any cruise. Additionally, you only get two small glasses of wine with dinner and get charged for bottled water. When we did our own excursion there was supposed to b a bus to pick us up. The bus never came and we had to figure out how to get back to the ship and pay for it ourselves. Also the prices for the airline connections are extremely high. So I was very disappointed w Grand Circle.

We had a very good experience with GCT a few years ago, Vienna to Amsterdam. We did a Gate 1 riverboat cruise from St. Petersburg to Moscow in May, and had the kind of experience you describe. It may be the locale-Russia. It was a fantastic trip, so interesting. But the riverboat was Russian owned and operated. They are so new in the cruise business, that we chalked it up to inexperience and still learning on their part. The food was Russian, which we didn't like, but felt it was part of the experience. We don't drink, but I don't think anyone got complimentary wine. We were given one bottle of water with lunch, and could choose water, beer, soda, or tea at dinner. Above that, it cost extra. I would do the trip again because Russia is so interesting and really beautiful.

I had a good experience with GCT. You can buy your own flight, but their price was considerably cheaper and includes transfers to the ship. The brochure said one glass of wine would be included with dinner, so I was pleased with two or three. Most cruise lines charge for bottled water and all alcoholic beverages.

We did the Amsterdam to Vienna with GC last year for my 75th birthday and it was an excellent trip for a very good price. My husband has since passed away so I really treasure those cruise memories.

We plan to travel with GC next March. No food could be as bad as what was served on our Avalon cruise. We took their Vienna to the Black Sea cruise in mid summer and not only the food was lower than ordinary, the common areas of the ship itself were poorly laid out. I'd never travel with Avalon again!!
