I don't get it. Are there international laws about not bringing booze on board ships? Is the prohibition just so you have to pay more by buying from the cruise line? Why is this different from confiscating your bag of Milky Way bars so you have to buy them at the company store? I know you can't whip out your flask on an airplane & make a cocktail, but isn't that FAA?
Until I read this board, it never dawned on me that I couldn't bring what I wanted on board for consumption in the room. Is this a widespread phenomenon?

Speaking of bringing booze on board, does anyone know if there are places to by spirits within walking distance of the Hyatt in Miami? Yes, Mikmo, we may even take a case of beer on board.(It wouldn' be the first time) At$3.50 plus for a beer - savings could buy a nice pair of earings.

janeg, I think it is like not being able to bring coolers into amusement parks and the like.

They want to make as much money as possible, and at $6 - $12 (probably) per drink, that can be a big number.

I think there are also some people who would abuse it to an excessive level as opposed to a bottle here and there.

If they were to impose a reasonable number of allowable liquor to carry on based on the length of the trip and the type of liquor, I think that would be a better solution.

My issue with it is twofold:

1. I like a certain brand of wine and a certain type of champagne, and I'm almost certain they will not have them. I am perfectly willing and expect to pay a (hefty) corkage fee if I can have my wine of preference at dinner. If I bring along a total of two bottles with me, at one to two bottles of wine among four people for dinner EVERY night for seven nights (we don't drink cheap wine), Celebrity will get their due.

2. We like to have a cocktail or two on our veranda and while we are getting ready for dinner, and I don't want to have to WAIT for room service or to drink a brand I do not care for.

I can assure mikemo that neither "cheap" nor "alcoholic" apply.

Interestingly, I've seen more drunks (some quite obnoxious) on cruises where they charge hefty prices for drinks than on cruises where all liquor is included in the fare. Go Figure!
