Are jeans ok for dinner?

I heard that jeans are ok for all dinners except the formal nights. Is this correct?

Levi Jul 19th, 2002 10:34 AM

jeans are just fine. Some people (especially on the Hollan America line) tend to look down on you if you wear jeans at any point on your cruise. Therefore, I wear jeans just to spite them.

Jeans are fine for dinner.

I don't know which ships Levi refers to, but on the ships I sail, no one wears jeans. Perhaps, say, if there's an offshore excursion for birdwatching some chaps might wear them, but that's all.

James, we are talking about jeans, not chaps. You keep your cowboy talk outta here.

Regina Jul 19th, 2002 10:58 AM

You can where chaps to dinner? That's amazing. All this time I thought people on cruises were so hoity-toity and snooty. I didn't know people wear chaps to dinner. How about spurs?

to answer the original question, NO. Blue Jeans are NOT acceptable wear for dinner on any cruise ship except, perhaps, Windjammer cruises.

Pants that are made of jean material but in another color, if they are in good shape, are acceptable for informal nights, except maybe on HAL. Chino's are a better selection.
Just returned from Princess to Alaska. Few people wore jeans for dinner.

Jeans are a BIG no no.
Remember you are not at Taco Bell.

On HAL you will be turned away from the main room if you attempt to wear jeans at dinner.

Lance, you sound as if you might enjoy a Carnival Cruise. Great rates, too!

jamas Jul 21st, 2002 09:59 AM

Some folks just lounge in their pajamas all week--saves time--don't go barefoot though into the dining room--that's a no-no, at least for the time being.

AAA Jul 21st, 2002 10:32 AM

Lance- JEANS are a definite NO NO for dinner in the main dining room on ANY cruise line EXCEPT for Casual nite-

However, some fancier lines like Holland America,Crystal,Seabourn,Radisson do NOT allow jeans in the MAIN dining room----

You will feel VERY OUT OF PLACE if all the people are wearing nice slax and you show up in jeans--

Lydia Jul 22nd, 2002 06:42 AM

But I wonder if jeans are acceptable at breakfast and lunch in the dining room on all ships, if you're going on a shore excursion after those meals?

Sometimes there's not time to go back to your cabin to change into comfortable clothes.
Lydia

Lydia Jul 22nd, 2002 06:45 AM

Sorry, I meant to add, that I realize that one may eat at the buffets for breakfast and lunch and jeans would be acceptable there, but I prefer to eat all my meals in the dining room.
I think the atmosphere is nicer and quieter.
Lydia
