Any SARS problems on Alaska cruises?

Has anyone experienced or heard of any SARS problems on Alaska cruises? I heard some similiar situations with cruises from Texas before SARS episodes, and now some activities in Toronto. Should I be concerned? Thanks

I did see a teaser roll across the screen on CNN last week about a woman taken off of a Holland American ship in Juneau with SARS symptoms.I have neither seen or heard anything about it since.....wonder if they're keeping it quiet ?

The woman taken off the cruise ship apparently had other medical problems. The latest I heard was that the Drs in Alaska are pretty sure that she does not have SARS (negative test results for Corona virus) BUT that since she was having respiratory difficulties they (wisely) decided to err on the side of caution and isolate her. So far NO ONE on a cruise ship has been identified as having SARS. Although a couple of unfortunate people have been removed because they had some sort of SARS like symptoms. In Toronto we all heard the story of the poor 89 year old woman who after standing in the hot sun for over an hour was flushed and developed a slight fever. The cruise ship let her stay on the ship for one day (now that's clever if you think someone actually has SARS) but the next day they had her removed. She did not have SARS.

Good to know that SARS shouldn't be a concern. Thanx

Hello,

I wouldn't worry about SARS on the cruise ships at all. The cruise lines are sending out very strongly worded statements about people who have recently been to Asia or Toronto - all guests are being questioned about their recent travels. In some cases, people who have been to the most contagious SARS regions are being refused boarding to safeguard the other passengers. The cruise lines are doing as much as possible to protect everyone. I wouldn't worry about it!

Just returned from AK cruisetour. We had to complete a SARS questionnaire several times-before boarded bus and ship and i think 1-2x othertimes. They are trying to screen the best that they can. I was NOT worried-more concerned with some of the folks who were huffing and puffing after all of the walking and climbing steps. The woman from Juneau was found NOT to have sars (according to paper).

We just got back from AK also. Everyone had to fill out questionaires and a couple we met from Toronto were required to take their temperatures every day. I felt sorry for them!

I was in Alaska the first week in June on the Coral Princess.

We had to fill the form out when we boarded the ship but that was it. Didn't have to fill out anything else any other time.

I should clarify, after reading Theresa's post. We had only one questionaire per person also and it was quite simple. Even our children had to sign it, which was interesting. As far as I know there wasn't any big illness on our ship, either, other than the bubonic plague- just kidding.
