Any news about the damage to the Millenium?
 

I read on cruisecritic that after hitting rocks in Villefranche last week the damage to the propeller could not be repaired and the ship is in drydock. Passengers were stuck in Civit. for days and the July 13 cruise from Venice has been cancelled.

I would think the repairs should be complete by the July 24 sailing and certainly by Aug 5 (my date.)

I checked out both cruisecritc and the celebrity site. It's too bad about the cruisers on the aborted trip, but it sounds like they were well compensated.

"Well compensated" is a matter of opinion. Those who booked air independently - as I always do - were given zero assistance and left to fend for themselves.

Those who booked all thru Celebrity were refunded the cruise and will be given credit towards another to be used within a certain time frame.

I imagine that if you had been one of those who flew your entire family to Europe only to be told 24-48 hours prior to departure the cruise was not sailing, and to get no help towards getting home nor money towards accomodations (in short supply in these months) you would feel less than well compensated.

I feel badly for everyone but especially for those who planned this as a once in a lifetime trip and are now left holding the bag on air and vacation time. I wish them the best.

Thats an interesting perspective. As we are considering another cruise next summer now the idea of paying for the air from the cruise line makes more sense. Anyway its R/T from ORD to PR so it shouldn't be that much.

Would trip insurance cover your flights?
I am leary of booking flights through the cruise line as I have heard you don't know the schedule etc. when you book. Also you need to pay a deviation fee if you don't want to fly in on the day the cruise departs and ends. We like to arrive a day or 2 [depending on the destination]early and stay an extra night when the cruise ends.Another thing I have heard is you can usually get better pricing if you book yourself.
