Nutella, believe me, right call.
As for laptops, we took ours and used it on both trips... about the same amount. It was nice to be able to flick through one's images, see what worked and didn't if landing at similar site the next day. Occasionally sharing with others, though I prefer to sift through mine before sharing!
And it's nice to have a mix of activities to do in the down time/ sea days - reading, talking with other guests, attending lectures, admiring views/ birds from bridge or out on deck ... and even looking through one's shots from previous few days.
Some people I think actually spent a lot of time on their laptops but for me it's about balance.
For me, if one chooses the right operator, for something like Antarctica, a photography special isn't necessary.
Then again, I read a trip report today, from someone who went on Ioffe back in 2006. They didn't start landings till 9.30 am and one is usually aiming to be back for midday latest. We'd usually be ashore for 8 am at the latest, often much earlier, and that went for BOTH our trips, the photography special and the first, open one.
Kavey is online now
