Another Tipping Question
I will be crusing on the Grand Princess. Are you suppose to tip the folks who deliver room service at the time they deliver? If, not, how do they receive their tip?
How about the folks who handle your luggage. Do they receive a tip? If so, when? This tipping stuff gets so confusing. |
Hi DianeK - I tip the person who delivers room service as I receive.
As for the luggage handlers, I assume you are referring to the porters @ the pier, and I do tip at the time the luggage is taken from me. You are right the tipping is confusing on cruise ships. Have a great trip! |
Just give everyone you meet a buck. Most are illegals and happy just to be in the country and out of the cane fields.
|
Ha ha. I think that the going rate for porters is about $1 to $2 per bag. I personally tip $1 per bag and sometimes I see others tipping more than me.
As for the room service, when I sailed on RCCL last month they had a video playing on the in room tv and showed you all about the ship and stuff and there was a part where someone ordered roomservice and the camera zoomed in to show the tip of $2, so i interpreted that as the expected tip for room service. So if you are on a 7 day cruise and you order roomservice 5 times, you will tip a total of $10. Yes you tip each time that you order roomservice because the person who brings it to you will usually be different. |
What currency? U.S. Dollars??
|
yep. As a general rule, any cruise ship in the Caribbean uses U.S. Dollars.
Take that a step farther and as a general rule, you can use US Currency almost anywhere because you can alwasy exchange it if the locals do not accept it. But in the Caribbean where the cruise ships go, you can usually use US Dollars even at the ports of call. |
Thanks, guys for your help. Thanks to you some folks won't be getting stiffed out of their tips. I have less than two weeks until my cruise!!! I can't wait.
