When I called my TA for information for a group cruise to Hawaii the difference in her price from inside cabin to a balcony was only $300 (which would have given me the free booze worth $50/day/person)which was an unbelievable deal and that she had one balcony left. The thing was that my son at the time couldn't confirm he would be able to come which meant that I had to pay double for me going on my own.

When I called her back to tell her I was going no matter what she told me that there were no more balcony and only one inside cabin left. Here goes the free booze! This week my son told me he could come. I was ready to take the classic package but my son (the voice of reason) convinced me that I wouldn't be able to drink enough so it would be worth it, specially when being in Hawaii all day for a week. So, I will be using the $600 I would have paid extra for a balcony and not have the pressure to drink as much as I could in order to make the package worthwhile. I'll see at the end of the cruise how much $ I'll have left.

chepar - Thanks for the suggestion of checking cruisecritic.com, I read all the posts on the subject for nearly 5 hours. That's where I decided I would take it. But it probably wasn't worth it for me.

Thanks everyone.

For a Hawaiian cruise, a balcony would be my priority over a drinks package! Iced water, iced tea, coffee and lemonade have been free and unlimited with meals and in the buffet and pool area on our Celebrity cruises.

Cathinjoetown - Having to pay only $300 more to go from an inside cabin to a balcony and get as a bonus $600 worth of free drinks I certainly would have taken the balcony (but there were none left). If I would have bougth the classic package I would certainly not have done so for the water, ice tea, coffee or lemonade.

As far as taking a balcony over a drink package, you have to take into consideration that you would be at sea for 5 days and if the water is rough with cold temperature I don't think that there would be too many people sitting on their balcony (I would be inside enjoying my drink) and when in Hawaii you are taking excursions and not staying on the balcony. Also, depending on which side of the ship your balcony is when in port something the view is not that great.

Everyone can have iced tea, coffee, lemonade, etc. free with meals and whenever the buffet or pool bars are open, no package needed. At least in my experience.

To each his own, I am too claustrophobic to be in an inside cabin.

You could ask to be wait-listed for a balcony but you never know how cold it may get in Hawaii (insert smiley face here).

My reservation is with a group, the agency had a certain number of balconies reserved, I doubt that someone will cancel. I know that tea, coffee and lemonade are free. This is not what I want to be drinking during the cruise that's why I was looking to get the classic beverage package but realized that I would not drink enough for the price they charge.

As far as cold temperature is concerned I wasn't talking about Hawaii but rather about the five days on the ocean. Leaving from Vancouver at the end of September I assume it could be on the cool side.

Yes, you're right, it could be cold. I assumed you were only cruising among the islands, my mistake.
