Alcohol and Carnival Destiny

We are leavin from San Juan and cruising the Carnival Destiny. Has anyone purchased there alcohol from the duty free shops there and then just brought it on board with them?

I don't think you can. Try posting on the Carnival discussion board at www.cruisecritic.com. Also try emailing Carnival on their web site or call them but I doubt you can do this.

Usually, shops will deliver your alcohol to your ship, and then you get it the last night. Or, if the shop gives it directly to you, the ship security will take it from you and again will hold till last night.

Ships nowadays won't let you bring alcohol aboard - they want you to spend $$ and buy from them. Most do allow wine however. On NCL ALL luggage is xrayed. If they see a bottle of booze they confiscate your bag, send you a note to come get it and make you open it and give it to them to get back the last morning! If you buy ashore, they take it until last night or morning. On Some ships if you buy on the last day, they let you take it back to your cabin. If you want alcohol in your cabin, you must smuggle it aboard! (My husband puts gin in his diet tonic bottle - they don't sell diet tonic on board!

We just sailed from San Diego on the Carnival Spirit. They will allow you one bottle of wine or champagne when boarding per adult.

Anything picked up along the trip will be taken when you board and returned the last night.

I carried six bottles of wine in an open cardboard carrier when we boarded in San Diego. There were eight adults in our party and nobody said a word or tried to stop me.

Other members of the party packed various types of other alcohol in their suitcases and everything made it to their cabins.

However, our cabin steward asked that I put the alcohol in the closet or drawers as they are supposed to report any bottles in the rooms to their supervisors. Not sure what would happen, but I didn't want to get anybody in trouble so I just stuck them in the closet.

We drank our wine in the room before dinner so didn't pay the corkage charge.
