Alaskan cruise shuttle from Anchorage to Whittier
Anyone with suggestions for shuttle from ANchorage to Whittier on AUgust 1... doing a Princess cruise - five of us. Do not want to do the big bus with the cruise line and would like to get a more personnel tour on the way to whittier.

We looked and could not find an alternative to cruiseline bus. Even renting a car did not work out as an option. For our cruise, train would have left us in Whittier way too early with luggage and nothing to do and nowhere to go. So we took the cruiseline bus and it worked fine for us - we could drop luggage at central Princess place in downtown Anchorage, spend half a day doing things around Anchorage, and then return at appointed hour for bus. We never touched luggage again until it was delivered to our cabin.

Bus driver gave a fairly decent travel commentary on the way to Whittier and stopped twice for us to take photos.

Not a perfect way to travel but for us it was the only practical way (group of 4) to get there. Hope someone else has a better suggestion for you.

You have a couple choices other than the cruise line big bus.
(1) Cruise line train (run by Princess)
(2) Hire one way limo
The cruise line bus was cheap and efficient. Looks after the luggage etc. The cruise line train is a good alternative, if they are still avalable, and slightly mnore expensive and they look after your luggage as well.

Thanks. I have been looking at Magic bus, Leopard and Girdwood transportation for shuttles with stops along the way..... Just would like to know if anyone else had used them. I am wondering if we should spend some time in Anchorage and not rush to Whittier as our ship sails at 9 p.m. OR get on over to Whittier and do one of the tours in Prince Wililam Sound prior to boarding...
Thanks for your help.
GAIL - would love to hear about your cruise and any excursions.

It's only a 1 1/4 hour transfer, unless you are looking for some type of tour, any bus should be acceptable.

The first poster completely missed an opportunity with a train arrival which would be a Prince William sound boat tour. Absolutely spectacular and well worth the time for the grossly superior scenic glacier sailings- FAR superior to anything you will see from a cruise ship. So there certainly is something very worthwhile to occupy the time.

I do NOT recommend a cruiseline contracted train, which is not frequently available anyway. You are paying a big surcharge vs the regular run.

All times are GMT -8. The time now is 11:27 AM.
