Alaskan Cruise
 

My husband and i would like to try a cruise for the first time this August, and were thinking of Alaska. What curise line would you suggest? We are approaching 60, and don't want something huge and crazy. Also, I've heard that it is a good idea to cruise one way, then do some land things and fly home. Any suggestions? Thanks!

You will discover a wealth of previously written advise which you may use to narrow your search. Then come back and post specific questions. There is also a <font color="orange">CRUISES</font> tab which will give you information on some specific cruise lines that operate in Alaska which you might also want to investigate before posting.

From my own experience in Alaskan waters, I'd recommend a small ship experience although Clipper Cruise Line no longer sails in Alaska so I can't recommend a specific company. Have fun planning your trip!

With a one way, I would only choose HAL or Princess since they both do 2 glacier sailings. HAL gets the edge from me due to Seward. It's easy to go on your own in interior Alaska and I never recommend the cruisetours. Do your homework, add at least another week, distances are vast and include at least Denali Park and Seward.

Also, if you go to www.cruisecritic.com you will find a wealth of information. I used that site for planning our Alaska cruise.
Cruise West is a small ship but $$$$$.

Clipper does still have the Odyssey in Alaska for several sailings - www.intrav.com.

I would check out www.bargelady.com - click on Cruise Collections and then American Safari cruises. There is a whole section on Alaskan cruises and the ships range from 12 - 22 passengers - which you mentioned you didn't want anything to big. Also, The Barge Lady has an extensive write-up/diary of her trip to Alaska which I found very helpful and indepth. I have booked with her before and she moe than met our expectations. Good Luck
