Alaska southbound rain in May
Can take the southbound Seward-Vancouver trip dep May 13, incl. Glacier Bay, dep May 25 incl. Hubbard and Sitka, or go between July and Sept. instead. Will I be sorry if I pick the early sailing due to rain and cold temps? Don't want to cheap out and have a cold, rainy trip. thanks, Pat

I know people that have gone in May, June, August and September, and it can rain any of those times. I went in August, and only had one port that all the excursions were "fogged" out. Go to cruisecritic, and look for feedback from specific May sailings - they'll be a ton of specific feedback....

Historically, May and June are drier in Southeast Alaska than August and September. That is a relative term, of course, and you should have wet weather gear no matter when you travel.

Thanks much for the information!

A key point here, is if you wish to take advantage of where you are going, and add time for Interior Alaska traveling?? IF so, you are too early for some areas. IF this is cruise only, it's a decent timeframe. But going later May, probably will offer you more fair weather. May into June, historically is the best overall weather of the season. Very begining of May, and past the first week of Sept. have the worse.
