A Unique Experience

My husband and I just returned from Alaska on Holland America. The best part of our whole trip was the dogsledding in Skagway. If you are animal lovers and do not want to trek out into the interior of Alaska in the snow, this is the thrill of a lifetime.
The place is called Alaska Sled Dog Adventures, (alaskasleddog.com) The guy that runs it is a Canadian who competes in the Quest Race. That's more authentic than even the Idatarod. Anyway, they pick you up at the dock and drive you to Dyiad, the trip is scenic and the guide informative. Pierre, had made a road up this mountain for the dogs to run for the summer months and then in the winter he takes them back to Canada. He has made a 6 man "sled" w/wheels, that the dogs pull up and down the mountain. It's very steep and somewhat scary, but thrilling at the same time. You are actually on a ride w/Alaskan huskies that are pulling you. 14 of them! It's about 80.00 per person, but worth every penny. You get to talk w/Pierre and see his trips in pictures. And if you go soon, you will see the 3 puppies he has now, which are awesome! You get to hold then and pet them and take pictures! I was just thrilled! If you need any further info, please write to me.

Definately, definately, not Spam.
Boy, some people are just naturally suspicious!
I thought these boards were for sharing experiences that we enjoyed and wanted to spread the word about!

Hi Jo Carol,

Do not attempt to defend youself against those kind of people. If you ignore them they eventually go away.

Great info. The trip sounds as good or better than the dog-sled ranch and kennels in Seward.

Paul

Jo Carol-- if you are still reading in this forum--- or anyone else-- how long did the dog sledding excursion take? May want to fit this in for Skagway but with all else we want to do, do not know if there is enough time. Sounds like it may be a highlight of our trip!

I'm curious about this since it is so much cheaper than the "snow" dog sleds...has anyone done this and enjoyed it???
