My wife and I are considering a 4 day disney cruise in march. we have a 12 year old and a child ehich will be 31 months old at cruise time. Is that to young? I see activities are geared for three years and up.

It is a challenge taking a toddler too little for the kids center. You may want to consider waiting until he/she can participate??? Or perhaps leave with grandparents?? There was an excellent article in Cruise Travel about traveling with toddlers- perhaps try and get a copy. Look at your reasons for going, won't be as much "couple time"?? And be prepared to miss some dining- few toddlers can tolerate multicourse extended dining consistantly. Be well prepared for however you choose- Disney is a great choice for kids.

Take the kids - they'll have a fantastic time and you'll have to drag them to bed at night. I am a travel agent, and I do a lot of Disney, and the children's programs are fabulous. The children love them! There are programs for children of all ages, from infants (just a couple of months old) to teenagers. All of the Disney Cruise staff are wonderful with children, lots of different age-appropriate activities and they give a beeper to parents so that you can be within immediate contact. Disney also has a private island, Castaway Cay, and it has some supervised activities for kids, a family beach and an adults-only beach.

I will only recommend that you do at least a 7 day on any cruise. Shorter than this is too much of a "just got on, time to get off".

I've cruised with lots of toddlers (not necessarily my own) and they seem to steal the show, if they're well behaved. Most cruiselines are quite accommodating to young children.

Disney Cruise will take only potty-trained pre-schoolers and up into their "children's program." Babies and toddlers can be placed in their babysitting service, but the hours and space (number of kids at any given time) are more limited. Plan ahead and decide when you want this service so you can have some couple time. Then make reservations immediately when you get on board for the babysitting service.

As for your 12-year old, he can enter the children's program at any time for as long as he wishes. They are available from early morning (7am) until midnight or 1 am, and they will feed him meals at mealtime. You can obtain their schedule (so you know where he'll be and what he'll be doing), and you will receive a pager in case they need to reach you.
