2 adults and a teen in a room?

First time potential cruiser here. I'm looking at one of the cheaper room options for a cruise with my husband and 13 year old daughter. Do we all cram into one little room? Does the fee afford separate rooms? I'm confused here.

Yes, a Triple cabin is all 3 together. You can book a Double and a Single but you will pay alot for that single room. Make sure it is near yours or next door if possible and you may have to book an adult name in the single. Average size of inside cabins is approx. 113-185 square feet depending on the cruise line. If you call the cruise line or your favorite agency they can explain better.

Yes, one room and one bathroom.

The newer ships have really nice shower facilities in the gym area which could help if your daughter is a bathroom hog.

Some cruiselines have larger cabins then others. Carnivals standard cabins are 185 sq ft which is larger then a standard on any other cruiseline. Even that can be tight - but doable.

If you do a seperate cabin you could be spending 50 to 100% more for one person being in the cabin. If the cabins are smaller than 185 sq ft you might consider a larger cabin category or let your daughter take a friend and split the cost of the second cabin.

We cruised on Celebrity Century in Feb with 16 year old dtr. Got a cabin with a balcony for the 3 of us - it was fine. Generally if all 3 cram in a cabin there is a double/queen size bed plus some sort of sofa/chair that opens up - or sometimes a rollaway cot for 3rd person.

The lower fee for the 3rd person requires that the 3rd person be in the same cabin. The problem with cruising with an odd number of people is that a person alone in a cabin almost always pays a "single supplement" that is close to the cost of an additional person - almost the cost of 2 for one person.

Issues in being in one cabin are storage space, walking around space when 3rd sleeping area is set up, and bathroom fights. Since we had a balcony, it was great for one or 2 of us to sit out there while other person was walking around getting ready. Bathroom hogging was reduced because it is surprisingly my husband who hogs it the most and my daughter and I just ganged up on him until he reduced his time in there.

Since you will have a teen with you, unless you plan on getting a bigger suite with a really large bathroom, I have a tip for you. Get one of these mesh over the door shoe hangers:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=3868461

There will either be a place you can hang it in the bathroom (we had a small towel rack we hung ours from), or you can also hang it over the door on the inside of the bathroom.

This will give the teen and you space to put hair items, cosmetics, brushes, suntan lotions, etc.- all those misc small items you will otherwise be looking everywhere for. There is so little counter space in the bathrooms that you will appreciate this thing.

We get a junior sutie on Royal Caribben and with a teenager, this item is a life-saver.

i think you will be just fine in a regular stateroom-inside even! after all she is just 13. unless shes really moody, thare should be no problems. Its a cliche, but she wont be spending much time in a room anyaway! (of course, if you can afford a suite, shed love that even more i know i would! tip- give her a curfew so she doesnt come barging in at all hours
and make sure she unpaccks properly! no clutter!

One thing to keep in mind is that depending on where you are going, some of the more expensive cruise lines with larger cabins have "kids" sale free (in the same cabin) promotions, and the total cost may be within your budget and you will have a lot more room.
