Young couple planning June/July trip to Caribbean..where should we go!?
Late 20's couple traveling from the west coast to the Caribbean - we're looking at the last week in June/first week in July.
We want: clear waters (able to swim!), low-key island vibe, maybe a few fun "beach" bars (nothing crazy!), pretty beach, etc. Walk to local restaurants OR all-inclusive.
Help!?!?

Look at www.negrilonestop.com and go to the hotel map to see the 'vibe' on the 7-mile beach or up on The Cliffs.

Turks & Caicos-- perfect time of year, warm clear water !
Very low key, few bars around but not wild at all, all about the beach & great food. The only All inclusives are "Beaches" -lot of kids & "Club Med" -older but great beach.
A per night budget would help to give Hotel/condo recommendations ??

Trying to stay away from "lots of kids" but we don't necessarily need adults only. Our time will come for the kids vacations
Budget per night isn't a big deal but we like more of an authentic island feel, not too resort-y.
Should we be worrying about hurricanes? Where might we find relatively lower humidity?

I love Turks and Caicos, but it's all about the beach and a handful of wonderful restaurants/bars. Most accommodations are condos or resorts, so it may not be a good fit if you're looking for "authentic island feel."
Negril is perfect for that, although you have to be willing to take your chances with weather. Some summer weeks are gorgeous, others can get rained out. And like many islands that time of year, it's broiling hot.
If you're still interested, check out ROCKHOUSE on the cliffs and THE CAVES, both of which are very nice properties. THE CAVES is exclusive and high end, but you said you had no real budget in mind.
On the beach for more affordable and less fancy accommodations, look at IDLE AWHILE, and step down or two next door at COCO LA PALM, or CHARELA INN.
Jamaica will definitely give you that authentic island feel- and more! It's one of my favorite islands, but you have to be ready for it.

For decent prices, it's pretty hard to beat Mexico. For a similar situation it will pretty much across the board cost less than a Caribbean island.
Believe me, Negril can feel plenty "authentic"... sometimes too much so for some people! It's quite rustic still.

Any feedback on Dominican Republic? Vibe/weather?
I think I'm most worried about weather this time of the year! I know it's iffy almost everywhere but I'm curious if some places in the Caribbean are better than others during June/July.

Do you have a particular place on the island in mind? Punta Cana is where most of the All-Inclusives have been developed. I've been to Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata, and Sosua.
Jamaica isn't of interest? My first two posts was my best suggestion.
