Young and hip??

Hi! My boyfriend and I are planning a trip so the Caribbean or Central America in early March.

Unfortunaly I cannot find anything I like!! We want a nice hotel by the beach with a young and hip crowd. We've done the all-inclusive hotels where people settle for the cheesy nightly shows and seedy casinos, we're so over that!! We are looking for a place that is young and hip without being cheap since our budget is about 5000$, food included.

Does anyone have a recommendation?? Anything I find is either all-inclusive cheesy resorts or cheap inns with a small green pool three miles from the beach!! Help!!!!!!!!

You are planning to travel smack in the middle of spring break, so the prices will be at their peak. St. Barths may be a good option for you, except your budget would likely keep you away even if it wasn't peak season.

Check out Peter Island Resort in the BVI. Not sure if that fits your definition of young and hip but thought it might.

Three words for you - Playa del Carmen.

Enough said...

Hotel del Seo and Hotel Basico in Playa del Carmen/about 1 hr south of Cancun might work.Very South Beach style. More luxe: Ikal del Mar and Maroma, also on the Mayan 'Riviera'.

tiv is right - it doesn't get any hipper than Deseo and its sister boutique hotel Basico.

Both are very similar but Deseo has a better pool. I like the rooftop lounges on both, and I have literally sat mesmerized for hours watching the cheesy vintage Mexican movies they show on the wall of the lounge at Deseo.

Basico has salsa lessons almost every evening at their rooftop bar. Have an early dinner at Babe's Noodle Bar across the street, hit Basico for Mojitos or Caipirinhas and dance lessons, and then head up to Cafe Mambo to strut your stuff, see and be seen!

Diana: Yes, M'am -- great flicks. We watched 'Cobra Woman', re-dubbed into Spanish, worth the trip alone.
