Yay! I'm going back to Guana!
Okay, since I didn't think I would be able to go to the Caribbean this year since I have a trip to Hawaii coming up in June, I'm thrilled to be able to say that in April my husband and I will be spending 5 nights on Guana, courtesy of winning a LuxuryLink auction. This year is our fifth wedding anniversary, and since Guana is where we honeymooned, I couldn't think of a more perfect location. We even found frequent flyer tickets available to Beef Island, so it all came together for us.
I know it's small, so chances are unlikely, but is anybody else going to Guana in early April?

Congrats on the upcoming anniversary and....winning what sounds to me like a spectacular trip. I hope that you will have time to write another of your wonderful reports this spring.
This is a trip I would probably have to win an auction (or the lottery) to do until I can go wayyyy off season, but I sure enjoy hearing about all these neat places.

I know you got married in Antigua (right?) but I don't think I knew you honeymooned on Guana. Very nice. Have a GREAT time! Wish I could say I'd be there in April too!
Are you still going to Grenada (the trip you won)?

Yes, i luckily got to honeymoon on Guana because back in those days Guana was still being auctioned off at SkyAuction.com. We got a tremendous steal--something like 75% off the rack rates. Unfortunately the package deal for April isn't quite that good!
Grenada is a distant possibility for this fall but it would mean taking unpaid vacation time from work to do it. The owners have graciously said they'll let me postpone my usage of the villa, which may make it 2009 for me. They know I'll write another glowing trip report about it, so I guess it really is in their best interest to be flexible about my travel times...
If I felt that we could recover from the long travel times to Grenada to just do 5 nights there, we would have done that in April and saved the money for a future Guana trip, but that's the maximum amount of time I could take off from work (in fact, though we won a 5-night auction, we might just stay for 4 nights) at that time.
So, are you counting down the days to your trip to St. Martin?

I look forward to your report on Guana. Happy 5th! My husband and I once watched a show about Guana Island on the Travel Channel and thought it looked great. One day...
By the time a trip comes around, we're in desperate need of one.. so yes, we're counting down the days to St. Martin.

Thanks for your kind words, everybody!
Yes, since winning the auction and knowing that it's a reality, I've allowed myself to daydream with alarming frequency about my return to Guana. Especially in the face of the ice storm that coated my stomping grounds in New England last week and is continuing to wreak havoc with my driveway!
