Wyndham Rio Mar

My husband and I will be flying from St Thomas to Puerto Rico in Jan and will be staying at the Wyndham Rio Mar. We are renting a car. I was hoping to get some feedback on the resort and things for us to do (things that shouldn't be missed).

Look into a Bio Bay tour and a trip to El Junque rainforest, which is pretty close to the resort.

Also, take a day or evening to go into Old San Juan and tour the forts and walk around the charming town.

Near by things to see and do.

Isamar Bakery - On the corner as you turn off Route 3 to get to the Rio Mar Resort - great pastries, breakfast sandwiches, coffee and they also do pizzas - prices are really good and owners are bilingual

El Yunque rainforest - several trails to check out some with waterfalls that you can swim in

Bio Bays - either the one at fajardo http://www.visit-the-coqui.com/2009/04/fajardo-bio-bay/ or take an evening cruise to the one on Vieques - company that offers the evnming cruise also includes dinner (east wind catermerans) - just make sure the moon phase is right for the time you want to go

Drive down the east coast on Route 3 (we just did this at the weekend) - several beaches along that route and the scenery is great

Spend at least a day in Old San Juan as there is plenty to see and do there http://www.visit-the-coqui.com/2008/...n-juan-part-1/

and there is more info here http://www.visit-the-coqui.com/first-time-visitors/

Hope that helps

I didn't have time to post this before, but we stayed at the Wyndham last Christmas. The rooms were fine, typical hotel standards, but nothing special. Same for the beach, although it did have giant waves, which were fun to surf in.I was a little disappointed to find that the beach got pretty dirty as you walked away from the hotel. We made use of the tiny gym and spa on site, and tried to get off property for most of our meals, since the restaurants were not very good and expensive. Since you'll have a car, definitely try some of the wonderful tiny restaurants in Fajardo, but make sure you have decent directions for getting there. Fajardo is not the kind of place you want to get lost in at night. Sorry to give such a mediocre review, but if we were going back to the area, I'd probably go to El Conquistador, which I think is overall a better resort. Have fun!
