Wyndham El Conquistador or Caribe Hilton?

Can somebody offer advice? I am trying to choose between the Wyndham El Conquistator or Caribe Hilton. Which one has better beach (beautiful and easy access) and which one has better location?

Thanks, Emma

Emma,
I have not yet been to the El Conquistador, but from what I understand, this property does not have immediate access to a beach. You will need to take a short boat ride to their private island.

I have heard various reports about the (in)convenience of this arrangement; that's why chose to stay at the Wyndham El San Juan instead...

Hope this helps!

Wyndam - located about 25 miles east of San Juan. It is a large resort hotel. Unless you have a Rental car most activities will be confined to the Hotel. The beach is located on a small island so going and returning involves a a shuttle boat. This can be an Inconvenience. The nearest town is Fajardo and it would require a taxi get there.
Hilton - locatedi n San Juan. It is a short cab ride to two major tourist areas - Old San Juan and the Condado. A rental car is not necessary. The hotel has a small man made beach and the waters are always calm. The hotel is 10 minutes or so from the airport.

El Conquistador definitely has the better beach. The resort is located on a cliff and there is no beach right at the hotel. As others have stated, you have to take a boat (short ride - 10 minutes) to a private island to get to the beach. There will be lounge chairs, towels, a snack bar, bathroom facilities and a place to rent water sports equipment (jet skis, snorkeling gear, etc.). There is also horseback riding available on the island. It can be a little inconvenient but I think the advantages outweigh the inconveniences. The beach is good for snorkeling but the water is very calm so if you like waves, you'll be disappointed.

Caribe Hilton has a beach right there but it is on the small side.

As far as which has the better location -depends what you consider better. EL Conquistador is secluded but close to the rain forest whereas Caribe Hilton is right in the San Juan area with lots of restaurants, nighltlife, Old San Juan close by.

If you want to do mostly outdoor activities and sit on the beach, I would choose the El Conquistador. The private island is really nice, and as mentioned has a restaurant and lots of water sport activities. There is golf and tennis right at the hotel. There are at least 3 pools that I recall, especially the big one on top of the hill that is great for sunset drinks. There is a small casino in the hotel. There are like 8 restaurants as well as room service (they will deliver from all the restaurants, including great pizza). The hotel is not convenient for sightseeing around the island or in San Juan. Once you are there you probably will not leave -- and you probably won't want to. However, if seeing old San Juan, the forts, shopping , etc are high on your list, then I would stay at the Hilton.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I think I would stay at the Hilton if I had to choose only because I want to stay in San Juan. I thought the Wynhdam was in San Juan.

There are actually 4 Wyndhams in PR. In addition to the El San Juan and El COnquistador, there is the Wyndham Old San Juan and the Wyndham Condado Plaza.

The Wndham El San Juan is in Isla Verde. LEss than 10 minutes from the Airport. The Condado Plaza is in the Condado - a 10 t0 15 minute walk from the Hilton.j.

We stayed at the Hilton and were very satisfied. Fantastic pool with swim-up bar, attactive hotel, and easy access to Old San Juan with its night life and restaurants. The only drawback is that the beach is on the small side (the view however, is beautiful!). We thought the small beach would detract from our fun, but the pool more than made up for it!

Sorry, can't comment on the Wyndham.
