Christiegr: You're not incorrect by saying an eagle ray killed him. Saying a bull ray killed him is just being more specific. Bull rays, cownose rays, and a few others are all part of the eagle ray family.
And nope, I'm no expert. I looked it up (and the latest articles I found also said it was a bull ray that killed him).
If you do a search online for "bull ray photo", you'll find quite a few.

Christiegr: You know what? I'll shut up now because my reply was WRONG! I got confused at the "eagle ray" question. Bull rays are eagle rays. But the southern stingrays at SRC are part of another family and not part of the eagle ray family!
Ok i'll shut up now.

Animal Planet had Steve's shows on all day yesterday and it was sad to watch it and know that he is now dead.He really was excited about what he did and he will be missed.

Thanks again - especially for lively discussion on different types of rays - who knew - I thought a ray was a ray. And if I was swimming with them or one decided to run into me with its tail, I surely would not stop to check its pedigree.
