Has anyone been to the Windjammer Landing?? We are getting married there in December and I am just wondering if anyone can tell me a little about it...

If you haven't already, type in Windjammer Landing. There is a recent(early May) trip report on there. There is also one talking about weddings they saw there last Nov. Enjoy your wedding.

Assuming you've read the other posts, let me know if you have further questions. We just got back from our second visit and had a great time. Another place you might want to check that has reviews is tripadvisor.com. It is quite a family oriented resort so it all depends what you are looking for.

Thanks for all your replies. I checked out tripadvisor and previous posts on this forum and they were all helpful.

We will have newborn babies all the way up to parents in their 60's with us. I am most concerned about our guests in their 20's. I don't want them to get bored. Personally, I love St.Lucia, but I am worried about the single, party-type people coming with us. I really hope they can find something to do there as well.

Also, I am concerned about our wedding, and the amount of privacy we will have. I don't want the entire resort to see our wedding/reception.

One last thing, I have read some really terrifying reviews about the service, and how people have had to move around b/c the resort overbooked. Has this ever happened to anyone??

cmw, Windjammer is a great multi-generational resort as it seems to offer something for everyone. Your concern regarding your guests in their 20's might be addressed by arranging a trip into Rodney Bay or Gros Islet if the resort is a bit too sedate. There is entertainment nightly though so it just depends on how much they enjoy/ participate in it. If people want to have fun, they will make their own so I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about it.
As for privacy, although they are making the beachfront bigger, it is not huge. When we were there in November, there was a very sweet gazebo used for weddings that was on the point which offered some privacy once you got there. In May, because of the construction going on to enlarge the beach,the gazebo was moved to another spot away from the beach that offered more privacy. I'm not sure whether or not they plan on moving it back to the point or not but regardless, other resort guests will likely be curious, but discreet about your ceremony.
I'm assuming your reception will be in one of the restaurants (Dragonfly?) and that should be quite private.
As for the service, we were impressed both times we were there and didn't have or hear of any problems with overbooking. The staff were friendly and helped to make our stay so enjoyable.
One last thing, I wouldn't hesitate to address your concerns to the resort general manager, Anthony Bowen, and see what he says. It can only make him follow through on making your experience a wonderfully memorable one. Hopefully I've answered your questions - let me know if you have any others and I'll be happy to help!

i am really curious about this beach. i really, really hope they are finished with the construction when we get down there.

I will also do some more research on gros islet and rodney bay just to take care of the younger crowd.

i'm glad to hear you didn't have any big problems while you were there, it makes me feel more at ease about our trip!

Hi Christine, not to worry about the beach. I am almost certain the construction will be done in the next month or so but double check just to be sure. They atarted it in the spring because it had to be done before the summer weather brings stormy seas. They are also shipping in tons of white sand from Guyana so it should be quite beautiful.
One other suggestion for your crowd is to take the sunset catamaran cruise from the hotel - lots of fun for every age. Please do a trip report when you get back so we know how everything went. Enjoy, I'm sure it will be a wonderful place for your wedding.

can someone tell me how far a walk it is from the reort to the beach - i understand it may be on a hill? Also how is the driving in St. Lucia? thanks!

flycatcher, it depends where your room is on the property but it took us about 10 minutes to walk to the 'hub' of the resort where the restaurants and beach are. The resort is built on a hill so you are staying above the beach but there are also shuttle vans that can pick you up from and take you to your room if you don't want the walk. Driving in St. Lucia is doable but challenging and I wouldn't recommend it at night.

Sorry to threadjack here, but wondered if people recommended getting the meal plan at Windjammer Landing--someone on Trip Advisor recommended it since dinner was expensive, but others here say no; we would have drinks with our meal and cocktails before dinner. Are there interesting restaurants to go to in "town". thanks!

(For those who helped me with Jamaica, we are trying to decide between St. Lucia and Jamaica.)

Hi I was wondering at a resort we stayed at once they let us tell them each day if we wanted to be on the all inclusive plan - is it possible to do that here so we could try outside restaurants?

Also, I know how ridiculous this will sound, but in reading through the old posts, I found the post from the woman who did not care for St. Lucia--her objections would not be mine, but the mention of snakes was disquieting. I am not a fan and would prefer not to see one--are they just in the rainforest (where I wouldn't go)? Looking for a little reassurance on that.

Yes, it is very hilly and if you can't handle it, you call the desk and they send a golf cart to your room. I thought the service was good. You can arrange nice boat trips from the desk. Liked the beach barbecues, too. We walked from the resort to the main road....about 10 min walk and caught the local bus often. It was easy, cheap and safe. No WAY in the world would we drive there. Absolutely the worst driving I've seen and at times there are people riding horses on the roads, not to mention goats, chicken, etc around every turn.

I was wondering how far in advance to book a wedding at Windjammer Resort. Is 6 months a decent amount of time to book a summer (june) 2006 wedding? Please advise. I am considering this for my location.

To aespangl. If you are looking at June I would start making arrangements a.s.a.p. as June is a popular month for weddings. I think that the wedding coordinator is Glennifer - she was certainly very busy during the week of 7-14 January as there was a wedding nearly every day. June also books up quite quickly for the 1-bedroom villas.
