WindJammer Landing
 

We are going to be at the Windjammer in St. Lucia from 2/15-2/22. We are using a friends timeshare week, 1 bedroom. Any advice on how to get a room with a plunge pool? What is the food like? We are not bringing kids, do they have areas for people with no children? (We do not mind kids, airfare is way to $$ to bring) Any advice would be of great help.. please email me at [email protected] .. again I would like any advice that you can give us.

Hi Peggy, I will also be at the Windjammer 2/10-2/20. We have a 2br timeshare. There are very few one bedrooms with a pool. There is one newer villa that is a 1br with a outside jacquzzi on the deck. You are traveling during President's week and a lot of schools are on vacation. You can expect a few more children than usual. There are a few areas on the beach where you can have more privacy. Make a right when you step down to the beach and walk down a little further. It's a pretty area, but there is no direct access to the water (very rocky). You have to go back to the main beach area to swim.

The food is very good at the resort. Jammers on the beach is great for lunch or dinner. We like Papa Don's for Italian. Dragonfly is good for at least one night. Two nights they usually have a themed buffet. I would pass on that. The food isn't that great. We bring our own breakfast foods with us. The breakfast buffet is good but expensive, around $15. I don't feel like the meal plan is a good value. We like to eat outside about half the nights.

Not sure if it's still the same, but when I went a few years ago, there was no A/C, and tons of biting bugs. We had a plunge pool, but still left after one night.

Claudette, Next week I'll be leaving for the Windjammer for the 6th time. I never had a problem with biting bugs. I always visit Feb. or March. Maybe it's more of a problem during the rainy season- Summer, Fall. All bedrooms are air conditioned. The living areas are not, but with the doors open you get a nice breeze especially at night. I never had a problem with the heat. Again, summer might be different if that is when you went.

I was Married at Sandals St. Lucia on 1-17-01 . I liked St. Lucia... I loved Sandals. I know this will not compare.. but I just can not wait for the warm weather.. we are easy to please.

Peggy, I think you will be pleasantly surprised how nice the Windjammer really is. Of course, different people have different opinions. As a 5 time soon to be 6 time visitor, the Windjammer still holds the same magic for me. Maybe I'll see you there. We should be in villa 501.

Just wondering how you liked the Windjammer. We have an opportunity to go in November and would love to hear what you thought. Also, did you do all incl. and if so was it worth it? We love to snorkel and I don't know if you can do this right off the beach. It sure looks great! Thanks for any info.

I just decided on impulse (which is very unlike me) to go to St. Lucia and I will be staying at the Windjammer the end of Aug. How is the hotel and general atmosphere for single people? Not looking for a Club Med experience, but my kids are grown and I'm looking for leisurely days (minor sightseeing) and perhaps a nice club in the evening. If this topin already exists (I haven't done a search), then please direct me to the link. Thanks.

Dear Requestaword: We stayed at the Windjammer this past February. It is a lovely resort; beautiful beach, nice pools, good restaurants. We had an incredible time there. As far as nightclubs, you won't find that type of atmosphere at the Windjammer, although they do have nightly entertainment at the beach bar/restaurant. Windjammer is pretty close to Rodney Bay, where all the "action" is located. Log on to tripadvisor.com. Do a search for Windjammer Landing, you will find many reviews there. Enjoy your trip!

Thanks for the info Squiggy. I did what you suggested and went to Trip Advisor -- and only found one negative posting. I think this impulse choice I made will be fine.

One more plug for Windjammer. We had a one bedroom with a plunge pool. What a vacation!!! Very fond memories. Food at Jammers good, especially lunch.

My wife and I are planning on going in August. From reading your reviews, I am a bit concerned about the open air villas (with the complaints on bugs...and CATS?). Also, it seems that the villas are not situated closely to the beach or restaurants. Can someone offer any advice. Thanks.

We did not have any problems with bugs. There is a resident cat, which I only saw a few times down by the pool, but she was friendly and was not a nuisance at all. Quite honestly, I would imagine having a cat on premises helps keep the creepy crawly stuff to a minimum. Yes, the villas are situated in the hillside above the central resort area, however, there are shuttles to bring you up and down, which ran frequently.

Actually this is for Squiggy -- I just read on this forum that the villas with "open air" living rooms -- could possibly let snakes literally slither in? This never crossed my mind and my travel agent didn't know (she stayed in a standard hotel room). Please let me know as my res. is Aug. 30th -- and I'll have to make other arrangements

Requestaword. Please don't make other reservations!!!! "Open air" living rooms are truly not open air. There are shutters on the windows and sliding doors out to the patio. I do not think you should worry about snakes.

Squiggy -- thanks so much for responding so quickly. I'm not a novice traveler and I always try to research any where I go, which is why it never crossed my mind that the villas wouldn't have "doors" or enclosures of some kind. I believe in live and let live and I don't go where animals are that I'm afraid of so that is why I was so concerned that snakes would slither into the villa. With a little over a month before I leave for St. Lucia, I don't need any added stress.
