I am going to Curacao tomorrow, so as of right now, I can't give a first hand opinion of it. We are going because of the appeal of Wllemstad (like old architecture and several small museums seem like they will be nice), the diverse culture, and the beaches (even they they are not the best in the Carib.) We are splitting our time between the Kura Kulanda hotel in Willemstad and the Kura Hulanda Beach lodge at the western end of the island. Both hotels seem like they are very nice - time will tell.
My favorite islands I have been to (and have been to a bunch) are small, pretty much off the beaten path islands - Saba and Bequia. The people are really friendly and you get to integrate more with the community on these type of islands than other larger ones.

I referenced the 6-7 very nice small (200 yard beaches) and I said the East End.
I stand corrected they are on the WEST END with one of the first greeters being at Santa Cruz #1-A fellow Captain Good Life is a character. If you want he can take you out snorkeling to places not accessible from the beaches in a 25 ft. speed boat with a large canopy. He will drop you off at a spot and come back to pick you up ad take you to another spot. I suggest you tell him to come back in 25-30 minutes to pick you up. The 2 times we used his service he was very prompt. Bring your own mask, snorkel, inflatable vest and flippers. He has some for rent but the vests are the large orange ones.
He charges about $15/person to take you to 3 places in 2 1/2 hours. He will with his wife prepare you a great lunch on his rustic cafe for $15-$16 including a beer.
Then you can proceed on your own to the other bays and on week days we found 2-12 people on any one bay and very good snorkeling along the boulders that form the bays. Our last trip was Spring 2006.
