Why fly into ELH versus MHH when going to Harbour Island?
Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question. Why do you fly into North Eleuthra versus Marsh Harbour Island airport when going to Harbour Island?
Debbie |
Because Marsh Harbour is on the wrong island. Did you mean Governours Harbour?
Eleuthera is 110 miles long and the closeset airport is N. Eleuthera which is a short cab ride to the ferry and a 5 minute cab ride over to the island. The cab ride will cost you around $6. If however you fly into Govenours Harbour which is almost in the middle of the island you are looking at a cab ride of more than an hour up to the northern part of the island and will dive right by N. Eleuthera airport going to the ferry. So if you are going to Harbour Island, the best airport to use if N. Eleuthera. Hope this helps. |
Yes thank you travelbuff.I was wondering why people who are going to Harbour Island fly into No. Eleuthra airport. Now I know!
So what airport do you fly into if your staying at the Abaco Beach Resort? On their website it say's Marsh Harbour (MHH)... Debbie |
The Abaco Beach Resort is in the Abacos, different out island (it is north of Eleuthera). The airport to use for that resort is the Marsh Harbour Airport.
There are so many out islands and resorts, it is easy to get confused. So I don't think your questions are dumb. You might want to think about getting a Bahamas guide book if you're seriously considering going. I have one and it helped me figured out what was what. :-) |
Thanks caribtraveler.It is confusing.
I think a Bahamas guide book is a really good idea.Thanks. Debbie |
In lieu of buying a book, you can also check out the tourism website for the Bahamas. They have a section for the out islands.

Wow thanks caribtraveler for the great link!I found alot of good information.

The "Islands of the Bahamas" are made up of over 700 islands, so if you haven't been there before it certainly is understandable why you might get confused. Of that number less than 50 are inhabited, many are small cays off some of the larger islands.
I would also suggest getting a book on the Bahamas so you will know what kind of activities are available on the islands, what to see and where to stay. Have a great time. |
