Why are tickets to St. Thomas so expensive??

Why are tickets to St. Thomas so expensive??

I am planning a trip to St. John in May. In order to get to St. John you have to fly into St. Thomas and take the ferry over. Am I wrong to be in shock over the prices for airplane tickets to St. Thomas?? I am flying from the Washington, DC area and he lowest fare that I've been quote is $650/pp round trip!! Should I wait to see if prices drop - am I looking too early?? Any advise is appreciated. Thanks.

Marianna I don't know where you're staying on St. John but if you're at a resort or even a camp ground I'd check with a travel agent. I've been to St.John.a number of times and learned to let my agent book my land accommodations and I've always gotten discounted air through the travel agent. Give it a shot ,ya got nothing to lose.

You may well be booking too early. The airlines should offer better deals for trips in May. It's before everyone wants to go in summer and after "the season" is over. I live in MD and use a travel agent out of Baltimore for personal travel - Joyce Levin at Fare Deals 1-800-347-7006. (This isn't an ad, just a recommendation for a very good TA!)
