His Father is a Mafia kingpin out of New Jersey. His father makes more than all of the people that responded to this column combined. His Father does stay in places that are $400 or $1400 a night. However, His Father does not pay this price. His Father does not pay anything, since he is a Mafioso, he threatens and bullies the hotels in giving His Father free accomodations. His Father does not drive an SUV though, instead, His Father prefers and SUC. Sport Utility Car. His Father prefers this SUC beacause he likes to drive big Cadillac's, but sometimes needs the room in the trunk for certain disposables, if you know what His Father is talking about?
Would you like me to be your Daddy too?

His Father:
I think you are watching too much television.....You are definately not a comedy writer or do you even have a sense of humor...That Stunk... if you're going to even try to be funny do not steal material from a TV show that everyone watches.

Are you one of those people that constantly quote quips and one liners from TV shows and movies because you don't have a real personality of your own???

How Sad

My goodness!!My answer is this:we are in the upper percent of the country for income, have no children, our house is paid for, and I paid cash for my nice SUV in addition to paying cash for the other nice things we buy. People ask us why we stay in "such nice places". The reason? We are not able to get away to the Carribbean more than once a year. It's not that we're spoiled. But that one time a year, I am willing to pay more for a nice beach, nice accommodations, and to relax in comfort.

Has anyone stopped to comment that this is an interesting thread so thanks "Who".

I am a stay at home Mom in the Midwest with one child and my husband earns $300K annually. Our cars are paid for and we owe $150K on a $550K home and we have no credit card debt. Our home is very nice and it's located in a great area and we are presently doing some remodeling.

We usually take two trips per year to the Caribbean or Mexico. We do look for the best "deals". As someone else pointed out, trips wouldn't be very enjoyable if we found we were spending too much time fretting about how much $$$ it cost us.
For my husband and myself, on our annual trip "splurging" would be spending around $300 per night (including car and breakfast). When we take our son on vacation in the summer we generally like to stay around $200 per night.

Like "Who" I often wonder who spends the $500 to $1500 a night to stay at some of these luxury resorts.

I shouldn't wonder though because we have friends who make less money than we do yet they spend in the $700/night range for a hotel. Three kids in private schools and they don't have a dime in the bank or a pot to PI$$ in. No disrespect intended to them but I couldn't live like that. Just an opinion...

Anyway.....like I said...to each their own. There must be enough travelers to pay those high prices or else they could not stay in operation.

I watched both my parents die nasty deaths of cancer in their early 60's. That was enough of a lesson for me. Work hard and play harder. TODAY!! Tomorrow may never come.

Sorry, Brad, but with today's economy and prices $400K does not goes as far as you think and it certainly does not enable one to spend frivolously. Yes, it is a great salary but as the old saying goes--a FOOL and his money, is soon parted!

Also, someone in that income range gets used to a certain lifestyle and they won't be able to continue that lifestyle into their retirement years if they don't build up their nest egg and save for the future. Cheap B******S, no way.....smart consumers....YES!!!

Brad, what a naive fool you are. I pity the woman you are married to or may be someday. Go and blow all your money on luxuries. I'll live a very nice lifestyle, but not spend every dime just because I have it. While you"re bagging groceries in retirement, I'll be hosting friends and family at my beach house, attending my children's graduations from whatever schools they want to attend, traveling the world and helping my family financially.

Only in America would a person be bashed for saving lots of money, putting education first, not maxing their credit cards and looking for the best deals possible. Unbelievable.

Brad, Tell me, what's it like to be in hock and have high credit card bills and interest payments? Can you sleep at night? Do you have a years salary socked away? Do you have your children's educations paid for? All set for retirement? Must be great, but hey, you're a big man, you stay at all the right places...

HowDumb:
I hope for your sake you can gurantee with the money you have saved, all those wonderful things to come in your later years. It is quiet arrogant of you actually as none of us are promised any tomorrows, we are not born with any warranty period. I guess you feel you are above that. What makes you think people that spend have credit card debt or nothing saved? We spend on luxury vacations, no credit card debt, no mortgage, and have something put aside for the future, we have everything we want and need. What makes you think that to enjoy life and do what you wish you have to be in debt? Sounds like you have control issues, and I feel sorry for your spouse. You cannot control the future and plan what will be ahead, espically in this day and age. So sit on your piles of money and dream of the future when your balls are drooping to your knees and you can't get around like you used to. You will most likely afford the fully loaded "jazzy" with all the money you saved. As for the rest of us we will enjoy our lives the way we see fit while all our body parts are still where they are supposed to be!

To Sarah: if you read a post above, someone posted a question how much do you make what do you do for a living, I guess thats where all these income answers come from.

Anon, I was addressing Brad, who insinuates that anyone who earns a good income and doesn't spend it all, or who looks for a bargain, is cheap. He implied that since we have a lot of money, we should spend it all. I was not referring to those who can afford i like yoou..

Oh, and I do live quite well right now, I just don't spend frivolously or feel the need to spend to my limits. My spouse actually tells me quite often how lucky they are.
