Both Peter Island and Bira Creek are good choices. Which is better depends on your interests and tastes. If you are going to Peter Island from St. Thomas you can take a ferry or plane to Tortola and the Peter Island boat will take you over. If you were going from St. Thomas to Biras Creek you can take a plane to Virgin Gorda while you can get there by ferry it is much easier to fly. Unless you have a lot of time to waste, the best way is to fly. I am certain either place will be able to give you transportation advice.

Depending on the time of year Peter Island does pick up guests at the St. Thomas waterfront. You would have to contact them to see if they still offer that or if only certain days or times of year. You have the option of flying to EIS (Beef Island, Tortola) or taking the ferry to Tortola and then the Peter Island launch directly to the Island or the Biras boat there. They do meet guests coming in by plane but don't know the arrangements for those coming in by ferry. You can fly to Virgin Gorda from St. Thomas if the ferry schedule doesn't work for you or if you were to head to Biras, you could ferry directly to Virgin Gorda depending on the day you travel since the ferry doesn't run daily, taxi to Gunn Creek and Biras would boat you there. Another option is the water taxis that are available but it would not be an inexpensive option. Helicopter travel is also available.

Peter Island runs their own yacht to STT twice a week - Tuesday and Saturday. The ferry leaves the dock in STT at 3:30ish; leaves the resort at 8:30ish. It's a great way to go from STT to Peter Island.

Otherwise take a public ferry to Road Town and you can transfer to PIR "Tortola Ferry" that runs about 10 times a day.

Then, it's an easy transfer to Biras... Peter Island will set it up - you'll take their airport ferry, walk across the dock and get on Biras's Ferry (might be a short wait at times).

Getting back to STT from either one (unless you are at Peter Island and take their resort ferry) can be a little tricky. Speedy's runs a ferry from Virgin Gorda to STT on the weekend, Tuesday and Thursday (I think it is - check with them). But you can catch that and be able to make an afernoon flight back to the states.

Or as others have mentioned, arrange a flight from STT to EIS or Virgin Gorda.

Ferry info can be found at www.bvitravel.com - take the ferry link.

Both are great resorts and we usually stay at both too. Transfers between the resorts is easy.

The most direct way to/from Peter Island as ScubaMom has mentioned is to to coincide your arrival/departure with their twice weekly St. Thomas trips in which case, you'll board one of their yachts for a direct ride from the Charlotte Amalie waterfront to PI. We took the public ferry to West End on Tortola and were met by a taxi and taken to Road Town where we boarded the PI ferry. You can also take to public ferry to Road Town but I think the departure we picked only went to West End. Can't help with Biras.
