WHICH SANDALS-BAHAMAN OR DUNNS RIVER??
We will be traveling to the islands in oct. of 2000, and would like your advice on which Sandals resort is better. We're going with 3 other couples, all between 37-45 yrs old, interested in clean, well-kept resort, great food, great beaches and maybe some jewelry shopping too!! would appreciate any and all responses =o)
Thanks!!

Julie: I have only been to Dunn's River, so can't comment on the Bahamas location. Dunn's River was excellent. Nice beach, fantastic pool, excellent food, clean, friendly staff, etc. Never a dull moment. All of the resturants were wonderful. They eve had a great beach BBQ one night. If it's shopping you're looking for, Jamacia in general is not the place to go. We only left the resort one time to go to Dunn's Waterfall and that area has a little shopping, but mostly art/craft type things sold by the locals. I don't think you'll find any shopping around Dunn's River resort (the Bahamas might be better for shopping) One other small drawback is that Dunn's River is an hour drive from the airport. Sandal's will have a bus waiting for you, however, it's not any "easy" drive. I tried to sleep the entire way. Other than that, the resort is out of this world. Have fun.

Hi Julie:
I have been to both resorts and Dunn's River was superior in service! The Staff at DR was great!!! They will treat you like a King and Queen, unlike SRB. Both resorts are beautiful!
I will go back to Dunn's River someday, but I have no desire to go back to SRB.
Good luck!

Marianna and Mary and Everyone else:
can you be more specific as to what Dunns River had over the SRB? all the brocures seem to make it look like SRB is the more lux of the two. How was the night-life at Dunns River? Also wondering about the quality/quantity of the food and drinks, lobster, seafood, etc. Thanks so much! =o)

Julie: The night-life is what you make it at Dunn's River. I don't mean to sound ambiguous, however, SDR is an environment where those who want to have a quite romantic night can and those who want to dance all night can as well. We had a mix of both while we were there. The service was superior. The food was beyond superior. The seafood was fresh, I had tuna steak, scallops, mussels, etc., all all where very good. I did not have one dissapointing meal during my stay! I hope that helps, email me if you have any more questions.

stayed at SRB for 7nights/8days and didn't want to leave..ate at a different restaurant every night..each one better than the next. (french Baccarat was great..one MUST, make reservations for all restaurants as soon as you get there) rooms were clean, big. beach wasn't that huge, but beautiful none-the-less. had these GREAT wicker swings at the end of piers overlooking the ocean..fell asleep in them more than one night..lively, fun atomosphere, always something to do, or you can do nothing at all..easy,easy access to downtown and the straw market..lots of jewelry..(good deals on movados) so mcuh fun..oh, and they have their own little island that you can take a boat across to. good to get away for a few hours..small, but still fun. two huge pools..great service, friendly, friendly people..and did i mention the great food??? (and the spa, and the wicker swings..i could go on and on...) Royal Bahamian is my vote!

For shopping, you would definitely want to go to SRB. There is no shopping of any kind near SDR. I was a little disappointed in SDR because I thought it was somewhat outdated. If you want to go to Jamaica, hands-down Negril is the place to go. But not for shopping. The beach is much nicer than Ocho Rios.
