Which island has been a disappointment?
HMMM let's see, that would have to be any place Tim goes to (if in fact he does go anywhere). No, let me change that. It would be any island Tim SAYS he's been to.
What a complete moron.

Just a few words on St. Maarten..my fiance and I went there in 2000... Overall, we loved the island (the French side, anyway). The restaurants are amazing (and we are spoiled by being near great NYC restaurants). We also loved the beaches, the beach bars and our beautiful villa. However, contrary to some of the information in these posts, we were advised by the locals (waitresses, taxi drivers) that crime was (at least at that time) on the rise. (Of course, I imagine there is no place on earth without any crime).

I would not necessarily write it off but, as the locals warned us, be careful and wise about the safety of your person and your belongings. Also, we believe that we may have felt more safe in a hotel, as opposed to the villa we stayed in (it had a private entrance that was not well-lit).

Hope this helps.

Why oh why must we alway digress from the orignal question. Every has differing options...let it go. No name calling, please play nice.

Not everyone sees a place in the same light. Why do people get so defensive over this?? You may like a place and I may hate it and vice versa. I have friends who pushed me out the door to see places they adored and i was bored and disappointed. In the end, who cares what the other guy thinks....its about what YOU like and what you find important in a holiday destination!!

The only island (or place in the world, for that matter) that I've found a disappointment is the one that I've been unable to visit!

It's very important to approach your travels with an open mind and an open heart. While it's nice to hope for an awesome vacation, don't expect paradise to jump right out and grab you. Sometimes you need to dig a bit below the surface to find it.

This is more or less what my dad taught us as kids. His job (US military) found us hopping about the globe pretty extensively during our childhood. He was a pretty smart guy, no?

Tim [email protected]: You need to realize that there's a different Tim on this board other than you and that's the one people are responding to with regards to St. Martin, not you.
