which island from Boston w/kids
We're thinking of visiting the Caribbean during the 3rd week of April and would appreciate any advice. We'll be flying out of Boston, so fairly easy access would be nice. We like low-key, low crowds, nice beaches. Maybe some snorkeling. Maybe some hiking. Would rather not rent a car. From what I've read/heard, the islands that sound appealing are Grand Cayman, Anguilla, St. John, maybe Aruba. We've been to Bermuda and loved it, but would like to try someplace new. Kids are 9 and 13.
Thanks. |
We are also flying from Boston that week. American Airlines now has direct flights to Turks and Caicos on Saturdays. It's a little over a 3 hour flight which is great. Our kids are almost the same ages. They will be 8-13

I'll have to check out American Airlines website. I haven't done any research into Turks and Caicos, but I'm thinking it might meet our criteria regarding low crowds and nice beaches. Any lodging recommendations?
Thanks. |
The Sands resort is a big hit with families. Nice restaurant. www.thesandsresort.com
We stay at the Alexandra Resort thats also a good place for families www.alexandraresort.com If you like high end places www.theregentexperience.com www.thesomerset.com www.gracebayclub.com |
Just a thought, we are going to try the direct flights between Boston and St. Thomas. We've flown from Bradley (Hartford/Springfield) in the past but there aren't direct flights except to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Can't wait to save a little time and get there right away.

Thanks. Turks and Caicos look beautiful, but the non-stop airfare is currently a little more than we were hoping to spend (showing at about $900 per ticket right now). I'll have to keep an eye on it to see if it drops. I'll check out St. Thomas too.

BTW, if you look on American Airlines' website, www.aa.com they have a great feature which gives you comparison prices on dates around the time you're looking to travel. I have found round-trip non-stop St. Thomas trips for as little as $330.

Wow $900 ...I just helped a friend book his ticket on Monday and it was a little over $500.
Good luck Did you try travelocity.com US Air also has direct flights on Saturdays but they are all booked for that week, or, over $1000 for the few seats they have left. |
I found the $900 at aa.com, but I'll check Travelocity or Orbitz. This was for the non-stop flight to Turks and Caicos, Saturday to Saturday, and it came to slightly over $900 each when they added the tax in. Since it's school break week, it might be filling up so the rates are going up. I'm going to check out the airfares to St. Thomas too. Thanks.
