Which Island?
My husband and I want to plan a week-long trip to the Caribbean late May-ish. We've been to Aruba, Bermuda and the Bahamas, but would like to try a different island. We're an active 30-40's couple and would like to go to an island where there were opportunities to do something else besides lying on the beach or doing water sports. (No golf or horseback riding pls.) We love eco-travel and adventure, but are cost-conscious. Suggestions? Thanks in advance.

St. Lucia seems to be a great island for active vacationers. I have not visited but a friend of mine was married there last December and really enjoyed it. The island offers a lot to explore. Good luck in choosing!

You may like Belize or Costa Rico.

You might like Dominica (not to be confused with the Dominican Republic), which is an untouristed island in the eastern Caribbean. The flights to get there are a little higher than to other islands, but once you're there rates are very reasonable. There's not a single luxury hotel on the island simply because there has been no call for one. Most people who visit Dominica are interested in eco-tourism and nature/adventure packages. You can go hiking through rain forest, swimming inland rivers and hot springs, including a large lake that is heated via volcanic steam. Whale watching, scuba, and snorkeling are also popular here. The island is defnitely not known for its beaches, so the beach-bum tourist will not be found here.

Check out www.threepalmsvilla.com in St. Thomas with as much or as little as you want to do. Very private overhanging a dramatic cliff. ..Eco and hiking trips over to St. John and a great Kayaking trip on St. Thomas.
