Which island!!!

Okay, I'm asking for an honest opinion. I am going to the caribbean in august. I want to go somewhere that has great beaches and weather, clear calm waters, and great snorkelling. I also want something that's not crazy busy and packed with people, but I still want to have lots of things to do! Just somewhere to relax and have some adventure if I want it. "to do as much or as little as possible". Please Help!

We're biased but we think St John is one of the best destinations in the world and it meets EVERYONE of your criteria.

Anguilla: best overall beaches/water in the Caribbean, quiet, best restaurants in the Caribbean, outstanding resorts...but not a palm-treed lush island (which means lower humidity and fewer bugs as well).

Jamaica is the place to go if you want to do as little as possible. Great place to just veg out and soak up the water and sun and alittle bit of Red Stripe.

I have been to Anguilla, St. Martin, Grand Cayman, Mexico and Jamaica and for what you describe, I would choose Negril Jamaica. It should not be crowded in August - but will be hot. There is plenty to do right along the beach - just walk until something looks interesting. The beach and cliffs are great. Snorkelling easy there but not as good as Cayman or Key West for that matter - as good as Anguilla though.

I've been to nearly all the Caribbean Islands and have to say that the water and snorkeling opportunities in and around St. John or the British Virgin Islands is unbeatable. I would also recommend the Cayman Islands as beautiful and relaxing with great warm, clear waters.
