I like both islands for different reasons. St Maarten was fun the guava coladas were excellent. Orient Bch is a nice bch-take a right see people who should be wearing clothes-take a left all people are clothed. Grand Cayman has better diving & snorkeling and a nice beach. The further north you go on 7MB the less populated.

Agree with Linda about St. Martin - just got back from there and had a great time. We have been to St. Martin 5 times by now and have never experienced any problems with crime. We stayed at Captain Oliver's which straddles the Dutch and French side but is officially on the French side. One of the quietest areas of the island.
