where would you go?
my husband and I are looking for a caribbean destination for a 5 day get-away. We're looking for somewhere with excellent beaches, great service and gourmet food. Also somewhere where the weather will be warm in February. We're on the east coast and would like to go somewhere that doesn't require too much in terms of travel (we don't want to have to fly on puddle jumpers). We prefer smaller resorts to the larger ones but definitely want somewhere with good service. Thank you!

I would pick Providenciales (Provo) in the Turks and Caicos. Recommend looking at Grace Bay Club or Sommerset (Not sure their restaurant is finished yet but there are lots of excellent restaurants on Provo. Do a search on this site. Also check out www.wherewhenhow.com the on line magazine of the turks and Caicos. You can fly direct form JFK and Miami on AA, From Charlotte on UsAir and delta from Atlanta. Have been to Provo over 20 times and love it.

Parrot Cay - a 35 minute private boat ride away, after landing in Providenciales and taking the provided van for 15 minutes. Read reviews at Tripadvisor.com. Recently returned from there, and loved it!

Anguilla fits the bill. Short ferry ride from Sint Maarten.

Aruba has direct flights from the New York City area. It is also nice and warm in February.
A smaller resort is the Bucuti, and their nicer rooms are the Tara Suites. We stayed in a busier hotel, the Marriott. The island has nice beaches and very good food. |
Definitly Grand Cayman. It is very easy to get too, amazing water, and wonderful food. It is expensive, but can be made cheaper by making better breakfast and lunch choices. We had an apartment here and were very happy.

Barbados may fit the bill. Certainly has excellent beaches and good restaurants. Food at Cobblers Cove is very good.
