Where to stay with my family in the SW of PR

Hello all - I am taking my family (Mom Dad 24/20/18/6 - end of year celeb of sorts) to PR end of June - planning to do 3 nights in SJ, and 4 down SW by or close to the beach in a parador. Can you help me select a town ? I am not clear from Boqueron to Guanica where weshould stay. We will move around of course during the day, but as a base ? we are European living in the US, so not after casinos and shopping at any rate, but my sons are all over 18 and will want to be able to go out in the evening, to some reasonable extent. I have read that some of the fishing (?) villages are very quiet (i.e. nothing to do), we will want restaurants bars somewhere to stroll in the evening. Thank you for any advice and best regards to all.

La Parguera is a nice town with many restaurants - great seafood! There are also several nice hotels in the area as well as condos avaialable for rent. Many boat excursions and other water activities available. Surf area not too far away in Rincon.

Don't miss the nightly boat trips out to the bay where you will see the wonder of Phosphorescent Bay. Microorganisms give off light when disturbed - best seen during a no moon condition. I took my daughters (16, 18 & 21) there several years ago and they still remember our boat trip as one of life's highlights. I have been to La Parguera several times and have always very much enjoyed it. Joe's Boats is a great company to use for your boat trip.

I agree that La Parguera is a better option than Guanica if you want the older kids to have some kind of nightlife options. There are a few nice places to stay around Guanica, but they are all very quiet.

The negative about La Parguera is that it has no beach. You have the bay and lots of mangroves, but no sandy beach. If you use La Parguera as your base, you would have to drive to nearby beaches or pay a local to take you by boat.

If you would really prefer to stay where you can walk to the beach, then Boqueron would be a better option. The village of Boqueron ("el poblado&quot has a few restaurants and bars and can get quite lively, especially on summer weekends. Or consider using Rincon as your base, rather than the SW. Rincon attracts a lot of young people with its surfer vibe (although summer is not the surfing season) and may be a good match for your sons.

Boqueron will be more "local", while Rincon attracts a larger share of tourists.

Hi,
You may have already made your arrangements, but my family (48/42/18/19)just got home from PR vacation (our first trip). I would not go to the West side of the island again. East side of the island is much nicer and more to do - rainforest, hiking, canyoning with Aventuras, beaches, Laguna Grande is a better bio bay, Old San Juan, Luquillo Beach. We stayed at a fabulous guest house on the edge of the rainforest near Canovanas (www.villasevilla.net).
Beaches in Rincon are small coves, good to boogie board, but nothing to do at night in town, actually there's not really much of a town, and not many places worth eating at and no place that our 18 and 19 yr olds wanted to go alone. Rincon is still very local, not touristy. If you do go, rent a townhouse, eat in and watch movies or play games at night. From Rincon we drove to Boqueron for the day. The beach is very nice, white sand, but it's a bay, so no waves. Places to eat in Boqueron are very local and its a one-street local village. Once we got to the rainforest on the east side, we wished we would have stayed there the whole time. Next time we'll explore the islands as the beaches on Vieques and Culebra are said to be the best. If you do go to the West or SW side just don't have high expectations of anything.

I wanted to let you know that we ended up staying at Bahia Salinas - report on tripadvisor.com here . I cannot say the teenagers were thrilled but they were kind enough no to show it too much. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserR...erto_Rico.html.

While there we moved around - we had to or would have died of boredom. La Parguera, Joyuda Beach, Boqueron. This having been said, I will definitely go back to PR, and maybe even the SW coast, it is beautiful and friendly.
