Where to stay on St. John?
My wife and 14 month old son would like to go to St. John in early Dec.2000. We are looking for a cottage/guesthouse for under $1000 per week (preferably $500 per week!). We would like privacy, it does not need to be elegant and definitely no condo type situation.
Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks.

Hi Craig,
Your price range is a serious problem if you need to rent a cottage or small house on St. John. There is very little of anything under $1000 a week during early December or for that matter even in the heart of the hurricane season. And nothing at all for around $500 a week. There are just a few possibilities for something that is in the range of $900 to $1100 a week at the following websites which you can check on:,,, and
There may be one or two places listed among these offerings that run as low as $600 or $700 a week. The problem you probably will encounter with all of this is that most if not all these places will be booked up. But you won't know if you don't try them.
Best of luck,
Ray

Craig: I haven't been there, but doing honeymoon research I came across, which has a couple of small and relatively inexpensive places. More importantly, Susan Brierly (who manages them) was WONDERFUL and helpful on the phone, and gave me insights into not only St. John but various other places we were looking. Again, they may be booked, but it's worth a call.

Good luck!

Craig, $500 to $1000/week is tough in St. John in the low season, and you are going in the high season. Also, it is late if you have not already made reservations. I would strongly suggest that you check out They offer world-class eco-lodging, and some of the best environmentally sensitive lodging in the world. if they are still available, I think these might be about the only place that you'll find that would fit in your price range. Good luck.

- Jim
