where to stay in Puerto Rico

Thinking of coming to Puerto Rico for a 4 day couple getaway. never been there. usually go to St. John, but that island takes too long to get to since we have only 4 days. Not interested in gambling. would like lovely hotel, pretty beach nearby, perhaps snorkeling from beach (not sure the island has any). We want to minimize travel time from the States due to the short duration of this trip, and thought Puerto Rico would be a good choice since it's a direct flight. thanks in advance for your advice.

For me the Marriott or Intercontinental

good deals bidding Priceline from $69 or so

4 and 5 stars only.

www.betterbidding.com search "San Juan"

for deals up to 70% off.

Happy Hunting,

It would help if you told us your "room budget" - terms like "lovely hotel" can mean different things to different people.

Any way, in San Juan check out the following all of which are either beachfront or within a few short blocks of the beach between a 10 to 20 minute drive of the airport:

Intercontinental
El San Juan
Ritz Carlton
El Convento
Water Club
Embassy Suites
Courtyard By Marriott
Hampton Inn & suites
El Canario
El canario by the Sea
El canario by the Lagoon
Holiday Inn Express
Howard Johnson's

re hotel.. we are not on a budget, so $300-$400/night would be OK.

Then I'd choose Ritz Carlton, Water Club, El San Juan, El Convento or Intercontinental. The others are typical hotels.

Hi Roamsaround...have you stayed at these hotels? location-wise, how would you describe their poximity to nice beach? i looked at website for el convento, and it appears that it isn't anywhere near a beach, though the facility seemed lovely.

Yes, I've stayed at all but the "El Canario's.

El Convento is not on the beach, it's in Old San Juan - wonderful hotel, though.

Intercontinental, El San Juan and Water Club are on the same stretch of beach which is quite nice (wide and perhaps 3/4 to 1 mile long). Ritz Carlton is on the "next beach" to the east - it's also quite nice.

Sorry, meant to add Courtyard by Marriott is on the same beach as the Ritz Carlton.

Embassy suites, Hampton Inn & suites, Holiday Inn Express and HoJo's are all within walking distance of the same beach as Intercontinental, etc.

El Convento has a sister property (La Concha Renaissance)and you can use the beach and pool facilities there as much as you like, if you are a guest of El Convento. Sure, no beach in Old San Juan, but tons of sightseeing, and for a couples/romantic getaway there's no other in San Juan like El Convento. Enjoy visiting!
