Where to stay in Negril

We are a married couple in our early 50's. Where should we stay in Negril centrally located? We are not interested in an all-inclusive.

Not sure what your budget is but you might want to look into Nirvana on the Beach and Coco La Palm.

Last spring break, we (two senior ladies) stayed in Rooms on the Beach on the gorgeous 7-mile sandy beach. We had room 2203, in a building about half way between the street and the beach. To say our room was big would be an understatement . . . our room was giant size! We had tile floor, a double and a twin bed, desk/chair, two easy chairs, dresser, big tv w/remote, a/c and ceiling fan, iron, board, safe, bath with glassed-in shower, hot water in the sink, soap but no shampoo or lotions. The room was very pretty and we had a private balcony with table and chairs. We had enough room in our room to put two more double beds!

We paid $80/nt and this included a nice continental breakfast. The only thing we found bad was that they charged for wi-fi . . . $5/hr! They did have 2 old computers in the small lobby for guest use but they were always occupied and very slow. The good news is that just about every restaurant and beach bar had free wi-fi.

Hope this helps,
Sandy (in Denton)

If you decide on Coco La Palm, try to reserve one of the upper floor rooms or suites which are significantly nicer than the ones on ground level. And ask for one away from the pool/bar, which can be busy into the early morning hours!

Idle Awhile is nice, too. It's just next door to Coco, so on the same great section of beach. Rooms are more upscale than the ones at Coco, although most of them are smaller.

Thank you all for your suggestions!! We ended up booking The Negril Tree House for the first part of our trip. We couldn't get Idle Awhile on the Beach for our dates. We ended up booking Idle Awhile on the Cliffs for the remaining days. We booked them through Hotels.com and they are both cancellable in case something else opens up.

Thank you again for your help!!

We enjoyed our stay at the Tree House, the breakfast was a highlight; traditional Jamaican with good strong coffee, items such as ackee and saltfish, chicken curry, calalloo etc. It is a modest place to stay with excellent location on the beach.
