Where to stay in Curacao?

My husband and I are looking for a fun vacation for May. We have heard that Curacao is great and would love any information about good places to stay there as well as things to do. Thanks!

My wife and I spent 2 weeks at the Hilton in February 2006. We absolutely loved it. Do a search on my name and you will find a trip report I wrote upon our return.

We stayed at the Marriott, which according to fodors is the nicest/best value on Curacao. The complex was clean as was our room. The hotel had a good beach and had it's own reef which was good for snorkeling. Saw about 50 different types of fish. Dinner on beach was nice. We went to two other beaches. Porto St. Marie was really nice. Small admission fee. The neater beach was Playa Lagun. We had the beach to ourselves save one other couple. The snorkeling in this small cove was incredible.
We spent a day in Willemstad shopping and sightseeing. A really nice, fairly reasonably priced restaurant

cont'd: the restaurant is located in a renovated fort (Riffort Fort)right outside willemstad. The fort had numerous new restaurants in anticipation of the building of a huge Renaissaince Resort. I can't find the name of the restaurant but it is on the 2nd floor. The Marriott concierge arranged dinner. Most of the activities we did were beach related as that is what we like. The weather was perfect everyday. we went April 2006. Happy to answer questions

In my opinion, the Marriott is far superior to the Hilton though the Hilton is less/day.
The best snorkeling is 25-30 minutes from the Marriott/Hilton and that is the WEST END with a series of beaches and mid-week-you will find a few locals and others at them based on our last visit in Jan. 2006. Beach # 1 has a fellow Beach # 1 and look for Captian Good Life. He will show you $10-$12/ person to excellent snorkeling for 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
I would not recommend the Portofino at the Marriot. We had a $50-60/person dinner with none of it being better than poor to decent food at $50+/persion for 3 course adequate meal. Take a pass!!

I thought the Marriott was one of the "best value" resorts I have ever been to in the Caribbean. Very nice property, good service, really liked the beachfront executive rooms -- just steps from the water. I visited the Hilton and thought overall that the Marriott seemed more upscale, a better design (it's lowrise spread along the beach while the Hilton is more of a highrise) and I liked the Marriott's beach better. It is a bit higher in price but I thought worth it.

We had a great time at the Hilton last year. Although the hotel is an older property, we were very comfortable, and we loved the layout of the pool and beaches. There is also good snorkelling right off the beach at the Hilton. It has a great location, you can walk to the Marriott or Hook's Hut for meals and drinks. There is also a shuttle to town (which is very impressive, one of the nicest ports in the Caribbean). We rented a car so we could see more the island. We didn't know whether we would like Curacao but we were pleasantly surprised and would stay there again.
