Where to stay in Barbados?
My husband and I are looking for a nice place to stay in Barbados from Dec 15th - Dec 20th (which unfortunately for us is high season). While we like luxury resorts, we don't want all inclusives and we don't want to pay $700 per night.
Thus far, I am considering Treasure Beach Hotel and Bougainvilla as per other posts. However, the villas seem like they might be too much space. There was a good price for the Hilton but I heard rumors of construction and the Hilton seemed like it would have a standard environment vs. something more "special." Also, we'd like to be in a good location and get good value for our money. Our budget is maybe $200-$350 per night.
Any comments on the above hotels or recommendations on others? Please include what you liked and disliked about the property you are writing about.
Thanks so much!

Treasure Beach is a lovely boutique hotel on the calm water west coast. The class act is Coral Reef Club, family-owned for 50+ years, gorgeous grounds, plantation style low rise bldgs and cottages. See www.coralreefbarbados.com

We just got back from Barbados and stayed at "Little Arches". It's a beautiful place on Miami Beach (local quiet white sand beach) with an awesome restaurant. The owners are American and Irish and have lived on the island for 15 years. You will love it and it's not expensive either! The Hilton on the other hand looked horrible and cost more!

We spent a week at the Hilton in February on the executive floor. What we loved about it was that we had a bedroom, a living room and two bathrooms. We had a view with two different bodies of water and one of the small beach (which is actually NEXT door to the Hilton property) and a view of the fort. It also comes with breakfast daily, tea and pastries in the afternoon, and a cocktail hour with all kinds of appetizers at night. We really enjoyed the hotel. It was very well maintained with a very pleasant staff. We stayed up by the adult pool and it remained very quiet the entire week. We're going back this February before heading to Palm Island.
We did a lot of sightseeing and ate dinner off site every night, but we loved the Hilton!

We stayed in both Little Arches and the Crane in July. I loved them both, but they are very different. The crane is secluded and was pretty empty while we were there. Gorgeous pools and the most beautiful pink sand beach. Unfortunately the waves on the Atlantic side of the island were a bit much for me. We were upgraded to a 1br suite at the crane which was amazing. Problems: only 2 restaurants, both overpriced, gets boring.
Little Arches had a great restaurant (cafe luna) on the roof, we ate about 6 meals there and didn't tire of it. Miami beach (across the street from little arches) isn't as picturesque as Crane Beach, but the water is very calm and swimmable. Service at little arches is top notch. However, the hot tub outside of our room never got warm enough...we complained and they took a few dollars off our bill.
