where to stay in anguilla in january
 

hi- we are planning a first time trip to anguilla next january. our first choice would have been cuisinaires resort but it is exorbitantly pricey. can anyone recommend an upscale but more reasonable hotel or villa in anguilla? we are a well travelled couple from the new york area- looking for beautiful beach, great weather, good food, and some fitness activities.

thanks in advance for any and all recommendations or suggestions.... and if you have another carribbean destination to recommend- by all means- offer away!!!

Turtles Nest is a self-catering condo development on Meads Bay -- although it lacks its own restaurant, it is adjacent to the wonderful Straw Hat and on the same beach as Jacala and Blanchards (2 good restauranst). Straw Hat is located on the premises of Frangipani which is a beautiful, small resort priced a little better than Cuisi or Cap Juluca. Carimar is also on Meads Bay and is adjacent to the spectacular spa & fitness center at Mallihouana (another pricey resort). Finally, Viceroy is the newest resort in Anguilla and is quite large. It has been running a number of specials as I don't think it is booked anywhere near capacity. It's worth checking out. The west end (where these places are) has many of the best restaurants on the island and is a great place to stay.

Look at Shoal Bay Villas - perhaps they are in your price range.

It would really help if you gave us some idea of what you are looking to spend - terms like "exorbidantly pricey" " more reasonable" are meaningless without an actual dollar point of reference so we know what those terms mean to you.

Upscale without the price is hard to find in Anguilla-most resorts are of caliver of Ritz and Four Seasons, you won't find "Courtyard Marriott" type places. In Anguilla, to get luxury you have to spend the money.

You might want to consider another island, where upscale luxury costs less, Cusinart, Cap Jaluca, Malli and Viceroy are all in the same priceline. Ku and Turtle's Nest are comfortable but fairly basic. Fragiapani might be in between.

Well, you're asking for upscale accommodations in high season in Anguilla, one of the top two most expensive islands in the Caribbean, but you don't want to pay upscale prices. So one of your two requirements is going to have to budge: upscale prices or upscale accommodations.

If you can spare being beachfront and settle for a lovely view of Rendezvous Bay, the Bayberry Villa is quite nice and it's a little less expensive than Cuisinart.

Frangipani is also quite nice, but I think it's almost in the same price bracket as Cuisinart.

Ku, Shoal Bay Villas, Turtles Nest, La Vue, Allamanda, Carimar, Paradise Cove, Caribella, Serenity, the new Sirena (about to be renamed Anacoana) are all less expensive than Cuisinart, but they're also commensurately less in terms of amenities and luxuries.

thanks for all the helpful replies. you indicate that i should include a price range- so how about $500-600 nite. with that price range in mind- is there anything do-able in antigua?? thanks so much for any and all help@!

Antigua or Anguilla - if you were going to go to Anguilla - and decided not - go to Turks and Caicos - white sand like flour - pricy - but I believe you'd find exactly what you want at that price range.

Haven't been in too many years, but we've enjoyed Shoals Bay Villas many times and have always found it delightful. Don't know what kind of "fitness activities" you are looking for but the beach is almost deserted early and late in the day and there is great snorkling right off the beach, so we've never seen the need for artificial fitness activities.

Look into Anacaona, formerly Sirena, and now under management of Sue and Robin Ricketts. also, you might be able to get Malli if you price-shop online. Ku is in your price range, also. You can check for up to date information here.
