Where to stay for just two night St. Martin?

The main destination of our January trip is Anguilla, but we'd like to stay 2 or 3 nights in St. Martin before heading over there. (We will be flying into SXM.) Any suggestions on where to stay to get a feel for the place, without settling into anything real luxurious or encountering complicated ground transportation? Would like to be on the beach, but no other amenities necessary (pool, golf, tennis, kids club, AI, etc).

Thanks!

To get a real feel, go to Grand Case Resort.

You need a car rental anyway because St. Martin has 2 different personalities and to get a real feel you need to explore both sides, plus Orient Beach

Grand Case Beach Resort is a good choice but if you don't care about a pool there are other choices along the beach as well. For a 2/3 day trip, unless you want to explore the entire island, a car is not needed. I spent 4 nights at Orient Beach a few months ago and we did not rent a car and we didn't miss not having it. You can easily take a taxi from Grand Case to Orient Beach if you want to see it or into Marigot. While not cheap, taxis are convenient. If seeing the Dutch side of the island is a priority, then a car rental makes sense. Personally, the French side is where I prefer to spend my time.
